Hmmm, unless I'm mistaken, Chester, Grays, Forest Green and Ebbsfleet cannot possibly overtake us, and that only came into effect (on the broad &quotpoints || games remaining x 3&quot basis rather than the tedious &quotall possible permutations of remaining fixtures&quot basis, on which I'm sure we were safe quite a few games ago) after Saturday.

I did study A-level Maths and Further Maths at school, but that was a long time ago.

I wouldn't feel too bad because for us to get relegated 21 teams below us would have to get at least 63 points and not just those mentioned above. I can't (and don't even know how to) do the maths on that but my guess is that it would be mathematically impossible for that to happen.

My maths is falling apart too - I meant 20 teams below us.

It's all about points available. The 24 teams have played 732 games out of 1104 leaving 372 remaining divide by 2 to get the number of games left to play = 186 multiplied by three to get the maximum number of avalable points = 558. The total number of points needed for the 20 teams below us to get 67 points is 476 so technically speaking ..........

But the number of available points has to be reduced for that to happen because Stevenage need 4 points to get 67 so the available points goes down to 557. After making all those adjustments the total number of available points becomes 543 so still ...........

Then again the bottom three clubs can't all get zero because they have got to play us and each other which takes the available points down to 531 so again ........

This of course would need the most freakish set of results and I'm not even sure if it would be possible with the remaing fixtures.

Don't dig too deep into my figures I don't claim any accuracy, it's just a guide.

Just to confirm, Eastbourne, Forest Green and Ebbsfleet all have the the points and games in hand to reach 69 points (and presumably overtake us on goal difference on the way).

However, because Eastbourne still have to play both FG and Fleet, if they don't lose either of those matches, then we're safe. Even if Eastbourne do lose both, to match our points both of the others would have to beat Gateshead, leaving them on a maximum of 64 points.
