That is true. However, if the future of the club was in imminent danger, do you think he would consider a reduction then? From a purely business perspective, it makes sense to reduce the rent to guarantee some form of income, rather than effectively have a hand in the demise of your tenant with no easy replacement.
As I said in another thread, I thought that the deal had now been done and the question of rent to Mr. Kassam is no longer an issue.
Anyone who wants to find that out could do so easily by downloading the land registry details for the Kassam Stadium at Land Register Online.

surely there needs to be some signs that next season we can have a team that can make chances, score goals, and push for promotion to keep some hope at the club, and to give us the best chance of seeing season ticket holders renewing?
Have to agree with Matt here. Whether Patto can turn things around or not (regardless of promotion which must now be impossible) will be crucial for the season ticket decisions in the summer. If we carry on as we are I can see season ticket sales dropping to less than half the number we have now.
Yep - all fair enough. Though I fear the marked drop in ST numbers and attendances will happen anyway, even if we do see a substantial improvement in the second half of the season. Which, as has been discussed before, could well spell the end of our existence as we know it (a club with league aspirations). So I'm still not sure the transfer window can make all that much difference.

[quote=&quotYF Dan&quot]1) Where did it all go wrong?
2) How much worse can it get?
3) How can we get out of this mess?
4) Will we ever turn the corner?

1. Because Kassam was unable to pick a decent manager. Had he done so and we'd have been promoted from league 2 I think his interest would have been maintained in the football club, fans would have been off his back and he would have kept putting money into the playing side. After moving to the stadium he put a good amount of money in only to see us struggle, Diaz was his last throw of the dice to get in the play offs that didn't work out and he couldn't be bothered after that.

In all fairness if you had only been a Oxford and football fan since he took over you would have given up by now - theres not exactly been many highs.

2. We go bust and start again.
3. Getting promoted to league 1.
4. Given enough time and assuming we don't go bust we will at some point.

We need to own the stadium. OxVox should start putting pressure on Kassam to sell for a fair price which takes into account the amount of money he has made from the leisure complex as this was got on the cheap as it was meant to benefit OUFC.

What do people think is a fair price - personally I think it should be no more then it cost to build given the amount of money and land he's got out of being with OUFC.

£3.00 well spent - Still owned by Firoka.

It's easy for Merry to say the deal has been agreed because it was agreed back in April 2006 as part of the club's option on the stadium. The only problem is that WPL haven't got the funds to do the deal at the agreed price but they did offer Kassam a collection of gem stones instead. Not unsurprisingly he declined the offer.

I'm not a big believer in these sorts of things but I must admit Im beginning to wonder if there's any truth in it. How much more 'bad luck' can this club take?

I can't see how this season can be salvaged but another year in the Conference doesn't bear thinking about.

Where do we go from here?
Has anyone else on here read the book, or seen the film, &quotThinner&quot by Stephen King?

It probably wasn't that Kassam couldn't pick a decent manager but more likely that he wouldn't give anybody a free enough rein to manage.

£3 not so well spent really. I have no idea whether a deal has been done or not but, working where I do, I know all about registering land transactions/charges/restrictions etc and there are many reasons why after a deal has been 'done' there may still be quite a delay in the update of the Land Register. Put simply, I wouldn't rely on it as the definitive answer as to whether a deal has been done or not.

Therein lies the story of The Gypsy Curse, folks.
And why would a gypsy curse only come into play on a Tuesday evening, exactly?

Are you seriously suggesting we start making business decisions based on superstition?

Why do you keep banging on about this irrelevant bullshit?

And, more to the point, why can't I just ignore you like everyone else does?

without being arsed to do ten years, this was our first tuesday night home win for eight years. from then on, these are our tuesday night home wins:

12/9/06 - exeter 1-0
9/1/07 - lewes 1-0
25/9/07 - salisbury 2-1

despite that first win against exeter, it struck me that we still did pretty poorly last season on a tuesday:

3/10/06 - southport 2-2
26/12/06 - woking 0-0
13/3/07 - kidderminster 0-1
8/5/07 - exeter 1-2

this season we also had the 2-2 against exeter.

The facts, as presented above, are that since we switched back to Tuesday night home games last season, our record is as follows:

W3 D3 L2.

Poor form, maybe, but quite blatantly not the desired effect any 'curse' might hope to achieve. Even for you weirdos who think curses, voodoo dolls and Mars entering Uranus can actually have an effect on anything.

Tell me, if Les Wells told you you would be run over by a bus next week unless you gave him 50 quid, would you just hand the cash over?

12 points from 8 games is actually a better points return than we are averaging for the season as a whole so far.

As for Les Wells he did very well and knows it. £1 million was at least 5 times the real value of his land and would not have got any more beause Kassam wouldn't have paid it. He very nearly didn't agree to pay the £1million.

Hey, you’re meant to be ignoring me, Kernow, so just stop it.

Maybe Les Wells got bored of all that voodoo stuff after 8 years?

And another thing, don’t you have ANY football superstitions?

/

Anyway, Mally may now take up the story of the night that Les Wells finally accepted Firoka’s offer and the last hurdle to the completion of the stadium was overcome, but I’d understand if he didn’t.
