Ethical dilemma : Slumdon or Franchise?
The third promotion place in the fourth division is between Slumdon and Franchise. Simple question: which of them do you wish to succeed?
(Evasive answers to the effect of "neither", invocations of points deductions and so on are taken as read and will not be accepted.
My vote is for Slumdon.

I don't follow this huge ehtical argument about franchise, but accept I am a lonely figure on this board.
The new franchise is attracting more regular fans in League two than Dons did when playing down the road from Merton in the premiership.
Anyway, surely it is Slumdon going up,which is a credit to them after the uncertainty this year.

A brief investigation suggests that attendances in their last, relegation season were around twenty thousand and that Franchise get around seven thousand."DLT" wrote:The new franchise is attracting more regular fans in League two than Dons did when playing down the road from Merton in the premiership.
Granted a large proportion of that twenty thousand would have been away fans, but not remotely enough, I think, to make this propostion true.

No debate in my mind - Slumdon, however much they are hated in these parts, are a real genuine football team. Franchise stand for everything that is the opposite of true genuine sporting competition. I still can't believe that they were allowed to get away with it. Crowds have nothing to do with it. On that basis Wigan & Watford should be thrown out of the top flight without a ball being kicked to be replaced by Sunderland and others with a larger fan base. Colchester for all their on field achievement should be dumped back down the league a division or two and promotion should be denied to the Iron.

Hate both of them. Don't care."DLT" wrote:If Wigan were not funded by Mr Whelan they would not be in the Premiership.
I suppose Arsenal should also be kicked out as well Baboo!
Re:
What has "being funded by" got to do with franchise and moving a team 50 / 60 miles or was it more (?) / stealing an identity - but isn't that all the rage now. Criminal, I say. When Arsenal moved all those years ago, it wasn't any where near as far as the Wimbledon to Milton Keynes sleight of hand."DLT" wrote:If Wigan were not funded by Mr Whelan they would not be in the Premiership.

Out of interest - Anyone on here think we made a mistake by not merging with Reading and becoming Thames Valley Royals?

Depends whether Kassam or Madejski got their greasy mits on the club first!!"Baboo" wrote:"DLT" wrote: Out of interest - Anyone on here think we made a mistake by not merging with Reading and becoming Thames Valley Royals?

Re:
The Gunners were unfairly promoted into Division 1 ahead of Tottenham depite Spurs finishing above them in Division 2. The Arsenal Chairman did a tawry deal with the Football League. The Edwardian football authorities were untrustworthy and put the interests of the wealthiest clubs above that of the game as a whole. Some things never change."DLT" wrote:If Wigan were not funded by Mr Whelan they would not be in the Premiership.

Funny, I was thinking about this a couple of days ago, and couldn't really decide. Only because I can't bring myself to wish success on Slumdon. But on reflection yes, I suppose that would be preferable to MK Dons going up.
I worry that Dons mk. 2 are just being accepted onto the football landscape now, even by fans who should know better.
How would you feel if someone bought our club and moved it to a town 80 miles away, just because there was an untapped market for football there? And he tried to move it to Dublin before that! I have nothing but contempt for the club and its owner, and will NEVER darken its doors with my presence (and money).

Exactly - but if / when we play them I would go. My support for the U's trumps my loathing of the franchise cheats."Kernow Yellow" wrote:How would you feel if someone bought our club and moved it to a town 80 miles away, just because there was an untapped market for football there? Having had to work there again for a fortnight this year, I can confirm that there is no place I cannot stand more than the scum. So I don't want them to get promoted.
Plus if franchise get promoted them we shouldn't have to give them our money. I just feel sorry for Milton Keynes the town, which will now never be able to get a real home football club up and running without the stigma attached. And the general Franchise boycott seems to be doing the job - without money they'll go bust eventually. Hopefully we'll pass them on their way out.
