Jim Smith's United travelled to Boston United on this Easter Monday in a must not lose game.
The day turned into a disaster as United took the wrong route to York Street
and got caught in heavy Easter traffic around Melton Mowbray and missed their
pre-match meal. To make matters worse the team had to wear Boston's away strip
and went 1 nil down after six minutes following a Turley goalkeeping error.
Alan White rolling home after Turley flapped at a free kick in the penalty area.
U's huffed and puffed and missed chance after chance before succumbing
to defeat against Steve Evans' Pilgrims. News broke moments after the final whistle
that Torquay under Ian Atkins had won at Macclesfield to put serious pressure on Oxford
with three to play. Northampton and Orient at home and Wrexham away.
U's - Turley; Ashton, Roget, Willmott, Robinson; Mansell, Quinn, Hargreaves, Brooks; N'Toya, Sabin.
Boston - Kuipers; Clarke, White, Canoville, McCann; Greaves, Ellender, Galbraith, Thomas; Dudfield, Maylett.
