Powell got Charlton promoted back to the Championship in 2011/12, they finished 9th in 2012/13, 3 points of the play-offs...and he is a club legend in the eyes of a lot of Charlton fans.

Not sure of the details, but I have the feeling there financial constraints and issues at Charlton. This blog site gives some info, including Kermorgant's views on their new owner:
http://addickschampionshipdiary.blogspot.co.uk/

One thing is for sure, my fellow student of EU agricultural policy, Wyn Grant, a major contributor to this blog, was not happy with Powell's style of play. His suggestions to the new manager are:

•Don't use players out of position
•Use substitutions intelligently and don't delay them
•Don't fail to have a Plan B and if possible a Plan C
•Tell the players not to hoof the ball as if they were in the non-league, but pass it along the ground to another Charlton player (clue: they will be wearing red shirts
•Don't defend too deeply
•When defending corners don't have all in the players in the box, but leave one or two upfield as an outlet. They only get in each other's way and obscure the goalkeeper's vision
•The bloke with the beard is our first choice goalkeeper

Oh - and there are already rumours about Powell for QPR.

For purposes of completeness, a welcome on here for Mr Waddock...currently 92nd in the list of longest serving managers -

I wonder how high up the list he will reach before he leaves the club?

Warnock turns it down, so the bookies have now posted up some odds:
Zola 2/1 Pearce 12/1, Mackay 14/1, G BRazil 14/1, Warnock 20/1, 25/1 Bar

One we all knew about:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26765666 - Richie Barker leaves Pompey

And another that is a bit more of a surprise, perhaps:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26785229 - John Ward moves upstairs at Rovers, asst Darrell Clarke (prev at Salisbury) appointed permanently

Claridge leads the pack at Pompey (2s), caretaker Awford (3s), Warnock (5-10s), Hoddle (10s), CONNOLLY (12s SJ only), Ronnie Jepson (8-12s), Tisdale (12s), Wilder (33s)

Meanwhile at Forest, Pearce rules himself out which leaves:

Zola (3s) then Clarke, Mackay, Hoddle, O'Neill & Clough all between 5-12s, with caretaker Gary Brazil out at 25-33/1

Waddock now up to 89th....after just 6 days in the job

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26867437 - Pearce appointed at Forest from 1st July, Gary Brazil to remain caretaker until then.

Caretaker Andy Awford evens to get the Pompey job full time, Claridge and Warnock the only others under 10s, former U Lee Bradbury (currently manager at Havant & Waterlooville) at 16s

Waddock still 89th

Brian McDermott could celebrate one year in charge at Leeds on Saturday, however Cellini's takeover has gone ahead today, so the question is whether BM will get chance to celebrate....

Mackay, Lennon and Sherwood top the list to take over from Hughton at Norwich
VAn Gaal & Pochettino likewise at Spurs

This thread is a bit out of date. Are people too scared to upset Sir Alex about his chosen one?

Let the culling begin - wonder how many we'll see go in the FL this week, plus a few more from the Prem next week:
Giggs, Pardew, Mel, Lambert, Big Sam, Sherwood, Jose, OGS, a move for Pochetino...???

Who in the FL: Redknapp, Ainsworth, McDermott, Hargreaves, Clarke, Westley, others moving up the ladder? .... tho in truth a lot have changed during the season so may hang on for now....
