Managerial Merry-go-round
Re: Managerial Merry-go-round
Ouch!!! Graham Arnold lays into the Blades bosses: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... toric.html
Re: Managerial Merry-go-round
If last season anything to go by, then expecting a bumper crop of appointments this week:
Rangnick has ruled himself out of Everton running, leaving them expected to go with Martinez any day now,
Meulensteen heads list at Wigan,
Rob Page reported ready to take reigns at Sheffield, although bookies have Michael Appleton top of their list
Steve Keen heavily linked to Millwall, though Lomas still tops the bookies list despite his club saying they have not been approached
Jose reckons he'll be in place at Chelsea by Friday and presumably Man City will finally get round to confirming Pelligrini soon as well.

Ok, #1 for the week - Mourinho confirmed back at Chelsea on a four year dealMooro wrote:If last season anything to go by, then expecting a bumper crop of appointments this week:

and, slightly lower profile #2 - Steve Brown takes on the managers role at no longer MyFC led Ebbsfleet...

Should have known that Dave Whelan would have grabbed a chance for his 15 minutes in the spotlight.....

Re: Managerial Merry-go-round
I wonder if the paucity of new signings at OUFC thus far, despite the obvious need, might be related to the appointment of a manager at Sheffield United.
Just speculating.
Just speculating.
Re: Managerial Merry-go-round
I don't know. There's a lot of 'believes' and 'are rumoured to' on all the news reports. Whatever else you might say about them, their communications discipline is top notch.GodalmingYellow wrote:I wonder if the paucity of new signings at OUFC thus far, despite the obvious need, might be related to the appointment of a manager at Sheffield United.

The latest BBC Radio report was that the shortlist was down to two, of which Rob Page is one, but that's still just speculation as far as I can tell. However, I think we're out of the woods, and Wilder's staying.
I expect the delay is just that we're shopping carefully and prudently, as per IL's missive. Not a bad thing, IMO, although an early signing of an exciting player might boost ST sales a little bit.
Re: Managerial Merry-go-round
Page and Appleton are the two on the shortlist for the Blades - I'm not sure Wilder has ever been a serious contender, I think it's just a case of one of the members of the board quite likes him, but I don't think it has ever got further than that....most of the action at the bookies will have been because someone picked up that there was a for sale sign at the house and put two and two together, and while locally more information has come out to show he's not going, that took a long time to filter through to the bookies (and/or they were keeping his odds low just to minimise any further exposure, even though they knew he was not on the radar).SmileyMan wrote:

Not the one I was expecting, but #3 for the week - caretaker John Askey is confirmed as the new boss at MacclesfieldMooro wrote:

Martinez finally arrives at Goodison for #4 of the week....
and #5 looks imminent with St Johnstone granting Millwall permission to talk to long-time favourite Steve Lomas...

Indeed, #5 confirmed this evening with Lomas to start next week when he comes back from holiday..Mooro wrote:Martinez finally arrives at Goodison for #4 of the week....

...not many to go now...
, Pelligrini seems to be making signings even though not confirmed,
Sheffield go full circle back to Chris Morgan, with Appleton, Page and Curle in attendance,
& Whelan says he'll make an appointment next week when he's back from Jersey (Meulensteen & Phelan from Utd, Mclaren & Coyle in the running here)
that just leaves those vacancies still to appear, most likely to be:
Brighton (Poyet already suspended) & QPR ('Arry complaining about not being allowed to sign Wayne bridge) - quick glance at the bookies suggests a job swap on the cards here,
Re: Managerial Merry-go-round
Seems the Blades are now set to appoint David Weir in the next 24-48 hours, but as he's about the 50th person they've been about to appoint I will hold fire awaiting actual confirmation...
Wigan race seems wide open, with Phelan & Coyle just about edging it from Poyet, robinson, Meulensteen and Mclaren. One bookie has Dave Whelan at 500/1, btu I wouldn't put it past him, given that he'd be able to put his face on the box every week...
General opinion appears to be that there is no way back for Poyet at Brighton, and a couple of papers have reported that Whelan has made an approach, but have also suggested that as things are not necessarily all sweetness and light at Swansea, that Gus might hold off making a decision for a day or two.

At last, they have made a decision and David Weir it is, for his first managerial role...Mooro wrote:Seems the Blades are now set to appoint David Weir in the next 24-48 hours, but as he's about the 50th person they've been about to appoint I will hold fire awaiting actual confirmation...
Meanwhile Dave Whelan reckons he is going to be interviewing 15 people this week for the Wigan job - I wonder how many names of managers currently in work he'll accidentally let slip.
Oh, and 'Arry reckons he's committed to QPR, so will probably be installed at Brighton in the next week or two

One down, one to go - and it seems that that one has been decided a long time ago, if not officially announced (presumably waiting for his current contract to conclude)!
So just remains to be seen what happens at Brighton and perhaps Swansea, tho all sides seem to be keen to stress Laudrup is not leaving. Meanwhile 'Arry seems to have calmed down a bit at QPR, but who knows with him...
So, apart from those, then it is a quiet month or two until the first casualty of the new season - I wonder how many defeats will be enough to prompt the first firing? (Last season Andy Thorn at Coventry & John Sheriden at Chesterfield failed to make it to the end of August)

Re: Managerial Merry-go-round
Well Ladies and Gentleman, with this afternoon's announcement from Eastlands regarding the arrival of Mr Pellegrini, I do believe that for the first time since the beginning of this thread we actually have a full house of 92 managers in place!!!Mooro wrote:http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22902197

A mere momentary pause perhaps, as I am sure the merry-go-round shall resume oh so soon!!!
