We were over there 2009/10, and drew the test series 1-1, so it isn't as if we haven't faced them recently.
It was a lucky 1 - 1 though. The Capetown test was a very fraught affair in which a magnificent rearguard action from Collingwood and Bell followed by a very tense last couple of overs involving Swann and Onions meant that we could have lost the match right up to the very last ball of the day.

Yes, but the very top sides in the world survive and the ones that aren't top, don't survive. Think about all the times Australia, when #1, appeared to be in trouble and then got out of it with a really good session, an unexpected late partnership or a flurry of wickets turning a losing situation to even. Um, a bit like being 124-8 and putting on 97 for the last two wickets, say, or turning 267-4 into 288 all out ...

On English pitches, with our first team fit, undoubtedly.

Of course, the same applies to all other top teams and their star players - luck/preparedness with injuries is a big part.
And Australian pitches!

Can't understand the nay-Sayers and doom-merchants - we are likely to be #1, and it IS merited just now. Doesn't mean I enjoy the fate-tempting arrogance of the English media, but we should also enjoy and applaud the rise to stubborn resilience with frequent match-winning flair of a previously mediocre outfit.

I think that contrary to another post, actually SA need to beat us to knock us off. They lost their last series (at home) against a Clarke and North-laden Aus - we didn't!

What a tedious day today, but not long to go now before our official Coronation as the WorldÔÇÖs No 1 team.
