Stadium Fan Survey
Stadium Fan Survey
Hi, I am currently studying for a MSc in Sport Management at Loughborough University and my research project is looking at football clubs that have moved grounds in the past ten years and the experiences of fans at both the old and new grounds. As such I am keen to get the responses of as many Oxford United fans on this topic. If you are interested in taking part in the survey and are at least 18 years old, please go to the link below- it takes no more than 5 minutes to complete.

Thanks,
Colin Littlewood.

Have completed.
Please note that it may not be clear that for OUFC (and other clubs?), I believe a move was essential (capacity, conflict with residents etc), but also that it could have been done so much better, and to a better stadium.
And the ludicrous access to the car-park is a particular problem for us, which planners could and should have avoided!

The massive crush as people coming out of the toilets colliding with people crushing to get in."bspittles" wrote:I found it quite difficult to accurately recall what the matchday experience was like The Manor. The singing in the London Road left side has left quite an impression, but that's about it.
The massive queues for food at half time - yet everyone got served and the food wasn't all that bad either.
People not bothering to go to the toilets because of the crush and simply going at the back of the London Road.
Standing in the food queue at the back of the London Road and getting showered by piss.
Fighting.
Apologies for all the edits - ineptitude is the only excuse.

Dangerous posting something like that on here, you'll get your methods and methodology flayed. Was this piloted carefully? Bit irritating not having a "does not apply" or "none of these" category for some of the questions (e.g. suppose you are not in the habit of eating at football grounds?) and a need to clarify some of the answers (for example, can't quite remember the wording, but how are we supposed to interpret the car parking question? The Manor had effectively zero car parking spaces, whereas there is a bloody great carpark area at the Kass - but it was easy enough to park in Headington, for the most part, whereas if you avoid the logjam in the carpark now and don't have a cunning way of parking on the Sci Park you've either got to get to an urban wasteland really early or park some distance away - something that could become a real issue if we ever end up in a higher division with consistently bigger crowds.

My goodness I miss the London Road. Age brings rose tinted glasses but I genuinely think I was happier watching Oxford there. That isn't to do with the on-field situation, moreover it was simply a 'proper' football experience. I'm convinced that, had I started watching Oxford at the Kassam, the bond between me and the club would simply not be as strong as it became or maybe I'm just a sentimental old fool.
OUFC mean more than they should to me
Re:
Presumably your age is such that you did not partake of a few pre-match pints in the Headington area then. Oh, for the Butchers Arms as was. London Pride before it became a ubiquitous beer."bspittles" wrote:I left questions blank if they didn't apply.
As for the Manor, I can honestly say I never visited the gents -D
The Manor suited me at the time as parking was okay if you knew a spot, the atmosphere could be noisey in the London Road from where you could have a reasonable view once the fences came down and if you didn't have a pillar in the way although at 6'5" I also felt compelled to stand at the back so I didn't upset anyone who had got there before me! But it was bloody tricky negotiating your way down and along terraces to get in and out and as I hit 40 I found it harder and harder to duck down under the crush barriers to take a short cut!
I've still got "a spot" to park at the new ground and a very good view from SSU where I know my seat will always be available whatever time I arrive and once I'm in the ground I don't have to go out in the rain to get food* or go for a leak. Admittedly there's no atmosphere in the SSU (unless you count the tension caused by the loudmouth a few rows behind!) but as many of the chants (I won't call them songs) seem to rely on the F or C word these days then I can live without it.
Of course we all have happy memories from the Manor but I have to say I'm very comfortable at the new place and it suits me fine even if it is still an hour from home (a too bloody blue for words!).
But the best bit of all about the new ground is that my 14 year old daughter comes to every non-school day game and LOVES IT!
