Oxfordshire Senior Cup Guide for Anoraks

Post by Sideshow Rob »

It looks like we have some catching up to do if we are going to catch City in the most wins table for England's biggest football trophy.

Why is the game being played at Thame?

It it had been played a few hundred yards from my house in North Leigh I would have gone to see what our reserves are capable of against a team who sometimes piss me off a tiny bit on account of them monopolising the exercise facilities provided at my local gym at Eynsham Hall.

... so in 125 years, no Abingdon team has ever managed to win the Oxfordshire Senior Cup? [goes off mumbling into his pint of Morlands]

Anoraks was the right heading here because the game has been postponed (waterlogged pitch)

For FA purposes Abingdon is considered to be in Berkshire (bloody Luddites).

You havn't won the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup either, as far as I can tell. Mind you the competition's a bit hotter:

If you look again at the bottom of the table it says that Abingdon Town have won it once. Not a great record for the former county town of Berkshire.

It is probably being played at Thame because Jim Smith has noticed that the bar is far superior to any other to found at an Oxfordshire football stadium.

North Leigh have a new clubhouse and Jim would always be welcome to come back to my house for a chat and his favourite tipple.

I could be wrong - but I have always thought Reading was the county town of Berkshire.
