Yellow Player - value for money?
A question for anyone who subscribes to Yellow Player...
I'm an exile, and make about 10-15 games a season. Over the last few years, I've been able to listen to RadOx online, but obviously that's now come to an end.
I never used to subscribe to Yellow Player because I couldn't afford it. I probably can't really justify it now, but is it worth the money? My laptop's very slow, and listening to RadOx wasn't always possible because of problems - but at least it was free.
Is it worth subscribing? Is the service value for money?

This has already been covered, so I would suggest the discussion continues in this thread:

Of course do what you want if you think it is a diiferent issue.

"I've been a slave to football. It follows you home, it follows you everywhere, and eats into your family life. But every working man misses out on some things because of his job. "
I have YELLOW Player and I am not an exile.
If you are an exile you will only be able to listen to online commentary through this portal and I would recommend it overall given the £34.99 annual fee.
I think its good value for money to be honest but it needs to be improved.
When Tufty (CW) is interviewed at the training ground there is far too much background noise and interference at times. What is annoying
with YELLOW Player is the silly music that Chris Williams has introduced before every interview but other clubs seem have proper graphics
and a flashy intro. theme tune and logo.
As well as access to United content you can go on other teams sites too if you are a bit of an anorak.
I think the plan with YELLOW Player is to have more interviews with management and players as they have tended to be a little sparse.
I have noticed that HATTERS Player for instance have much longer interviews with Richard Money. Hereford seem to have far more content
with interviews with new Manager and Chairman everywhere at the moment.

The club uses the BBC edited match highlights, which are though sometimes a little bit longer than actually gets broadcast. Each minute of footage apparently takes an hour to upload.
The background noise on interviews is because the video camera doesn't have a separate microphone, although a tripod has been donated to steady the picture.
From the proboards thread, the opening music is to try and give the interviews an identity, but has to be non-copyright. The club are open to offers of better intros from musicians.
I think it is fairly good value for money if you are going to miss several matches and want to listen to a commentary, but don't mind it being a bit delayed. I like the player / manager / chairman / Hodgkinson interviews too, as although they tend to get summarised a few days later for free, there is more detail in the full interview. There was also once a bizarre interview with a former player who is now promoting football boots at different clubs - can't remember who.
On a similar topic, has anyone else listened to the Timmy Mallet podcasts on the Oxford Mail site? I hadn't realised until a few weeks ago that they were still going, but there are 41 of them now, most recently after the play-off final. I think that one is all you could take in at a time, they are a bit too much - Timmy Mallet.

I live right on the edge of the RadOx FM reception area, and the only place I can get a half-decent signal is sitting in my car on my drive.
Last season, I was in the habit of listening to RadOx online, with the Sporting Life page on screen showing live league table changes, whilst watching Sky Soccer Special (on mute) on the TV.
Being a creature of habit, I'm not prepared to abandon this practice when United are away.
£34.99 equates to one pint of Stella per month.
I probably spill that much, therefore - good value.

Yellow player is NOT real-time. It is a recording of the Radox commenatry running approx 2 minutes later.
It is quite possible to see a goal flash on a videoprinter before the goal is broadcast by Yellow Player.
But beggars can't be choosers. I've paid up - reluctantly.
I have just signed up to yellow player, as we can not listen to radox online for league matches.
Have the same complaint as others have ststed above, about the wind interference when interviewing at the training ground.
But being an exile, and not being able to attend many matches these days, it is money well spent

How old is the man now, 60?
If you're looking for an ironic, wry, sideways, slow burn view on supporting your local team, Timmy's your man.
As an overseas exile I have taken out a subscription. But first I emailed to ask what I get as extra for the nearly 40 quid I must pay instead of 35 for GB residents. Back came an email telling me to ring the club and I could have it for 35! Rang up and deal done (I was a subscriber a few years ago and they still had my deatails, maybe the discount came because of that!)
Is it value for money? Well in the pre-season no. But as it's the only way to get radio Oxford for matches I guess that in the season I will give it a thumbs up.
