Duffy has only scored one goal in open play since 17th February, and that’s really not good enough for a full-time professional wearing Number 9 on his back for Oxford United.
If Oxford United’s life depended on it there would be no other player in our history that I’d want to take a penalty other than Rob, but it’s just not worked out for him in the last year and it’s time for someone else to wear that shirt.

Wouldn't disagree but the "that's really not good enough" arguement can be levelled at lots more of our forwards / midfielders - it just seems to me that Duffy is the one always picked on first."Snake" wrote:Duffy has only scored one goal in open play since 17th February, and that’s really not good enough for a full-time professional wearing Number 9 on his back for Oxford United.
If we can get someone in on a permanent basis who is better than Duffy then great - I'm all for it. Who though? And how would we do it given the wage cap if there is nothing in the pipeline regarding players being shipped out.

The thing he did wrong was to constantly have a go at the fans behind him who dared to vent their frustration at the appalling spectacle being served up in the first half. He's paid a good wage by those of us who have to watch that shit, and he should be able to take a little criticism - or at least understand that it's borne out of frustration and a desire to see us play better."Snake" wrote:The only thing that Turley did wrong today was to not catch the pie that was thrown at him and forcibly ram it down the throat of the moron who bought it.
I'm not in any way condoning any pie throwing that may have taken place, but Turley's general demeanour towards his own fans was churlish and unacceptable throughout the first half. As was his pointed refusal to come and acknowledge any of the applause from the East Stand at the end of the game. Most of whom were singing his name.
The guy has a serious attitude problem. Good thing he's such a good keeper most of the time.

If Duffy goes there is no chance we will get in the play offs - we are a much better team with him playing. He's started 46 league games for us. We won 21 of those games, drew 16 and lost 9 - that is top of the table form. Just this season he's started 11 games for us, we've won 5, drew 3 and lost 3, there can be no argument that we are a better team with him in then out.
Without him we lack any ability to hold the ball up, anyone to win headers so the ball keeps coming back and anyone who will score over 15 goals in a season - is it any surprise Yemi's form has fallen off as Duffy hasn't played and he's been expected to get on the end of long balls - he's far more effective when the ball is brought down by Duffy and given to his feet.
I question the sanity of Oxford fans sometimes I really do.

Some of us rate Duffy, some of us don't.
Hardly a matter of questioning people's 'sanity' is it?
Re:
When people want our best goalscorer whom we win far more games that he plays in to leave the club then actually it is. I've yet to hear a decent argument against Duffy apart from he can look a bit lazy and seems to have a poor attitude - neither of which can be backed up with any meaningful stats."Ascension Ox" wrote:Cods."ty cobb" wrote:Care to share that information with us?"Snake" wrote:Who will take the Number 9 shirt? Only weekend games (except Aldershot away - cos I couldn't face it) - so there should be something in on Monday. I am supposed to be going out in Jericho for a few beers after the game so it may get written in the pub - or not at all. Who knows?"Snake" wrote: Are you not writing for The Mail anymore, as I did miss your observations when I read the paper this morning?

The way Duffy has been treated by Oxford fans I wouldn't blame him for wanting away and sticking two fingers up as he leaves the building. He would of course return and knock a few in against us.
Re:
Of course you can."DLT" wrote:Can I just point out Rob Duffy was a much better player when we had Andy Burgess in the team.
Mind you, so were a lot of others.
Andy Burgess - another player to whom the fans gave stick.
Perhaps we (they - the knockers) are getting the team we (they) deserve.
