Nicky Butt appointed Man Utd's academy manager, confirming Appleton isn't on his way back to Old Trafford. I wonder if there was any substance to that story or if it was just ran because Appleton's the lower league flavour of the month and had Man U connections.

Eales & Appleton both said that a declaration of interest was expressed over the summer by Man Utd.
The papers just seem to have got hold of it 6 months later.
