Williams extends United stay

Oxford United have extended the loan spell of Australian winger Ryan Williams from Premier League side Fulham until the end of the season. The 20-year-old midfielder will now remain with the Division Four league leaders until early May after initially arriving at the Kassam Stadium until the New Year.

Williams has impressed Us boss Chris Wilder since leaving Craven Cottage in August, scoring four goals in 19 appearances for United so far this season. The forward, who began his career at fellow Division Four outfit Portsmouth, has played an instrumental part in the Yellows’ climb to the top of the table, and is looking to push on further during the second-half of the campaign.

Manager Wilder was delighted to extend Williams’ stay: “He is a good lad and an exciting player to have about. He took his chance which is what you want to happen.

“It’s good for everyone concerned. Ryan is a talented player and has done well for us. He is enjoying his time here and Fulham can see him gaining experience and playing well. The fans have taken to him and he fits in really well with the lads in the dressing room, so we are really happy that he is our player for the rest of the season.”
