United beat a rather poor Southend 1-0 with a goal from superscorer Matt Murphy, to take the tie 3-0 on aggregate. Rob Folland started the game at right back, with Les Robinson playing alongside Watson in central defence. Paul Lundin replaced Arendse in goal for the first time this season. Biggest cheer of the night came when Mickey Lewis replaced Tait with about ten minutes to go. Sad isn't it. What the hell – check out the match report, if you want.
No news yet on the Judicial Review, although when questioned earlier Pentith claimed that it wasn't happening yet as he still has a long way to go to construct his case, which his brief claims is watertight. This might have been true, or it might be disinformation. Apparently Pentith wants to develop the four-fifths of the Oxpens site which isn't Council owned (it's owned by Railtrack) and to protect his interests he is attempting to ensure that no other multiplex is developed in the city prior to resubmitting his application, which was turned down before by the DETR on traffic grounds. However, Pentith also claims that the City Council were obstructive and unhelpful, which is why he is acting against them as well.
Former U's finding the net today include Mark Stein who hit two for Bournemouth, who lost 3-2 at Barnet; Lee Nogan who scored twice and Marco Gabbiadini for Darlo who went down 5-3 at Bolton; and David Leworthy who scored Kingstonian's goal in their 2-1 defeat at Kettering. Former Oxford City striker Jamie McSporran scored two of Wycombe's four at Wolves.
Rage Online wishes Phil Gilchrist a happy(ish) birthday for today.
