Not sure if we are doing the hat this year, even if there won't be a table, it might be fun to carry on the predictions:
Pompey 0 Oxford 2
Kits On Beano
17865, of which 2,500 Us
UE: Fratton is beautiful

Go on then.
Start with a little pessimism and hope that I am wrong
Portsmouth 2 United 1
Craddock, Connolly, Smalley
18,067 (2497 away)

Re: Wot No Hat?
I would have joined in but I had already left for Portsmouth when the thread started. I'll do better next time.

Re: Wot No Hat?
I don't mind running a hat table if someone tells me the scoring rules.
Re: Wot No Hat?
All I can remember are the following:
Points for the:
result
exact score
total attendance
away crowd
goal scorers
unexpected event
but I can't remember how many points for each.

Re: Wot No Hat?
I can't find my notes or spreadsheets from when I ran it (and, as I recall, Frank changed the scoring too), but it was roughly along the lines of
Result: 1pt
Correct score: 3pts for exactly right, 1pt for home or away correct
Total attendance: 1pt for within 10% (I've a vague recollection there was a bonus for the closest?)
Away attendance: 1pt within 10%
I can't remember how scorers worked: it couldn't be point per scorer, because then you'd just name the team, would have to be some sort of penalty for wrong names or limit on how many you could name. 1 pt correct anyway. I guess you could do "first scorer", that would be clearer
UE ... of course no points are ever awarded for that. Other than for the best philosophical discussion about whether it is "unusual" or "unexpected" and what those two terms denote.
In my view, anyone who is prepared to run it has absolute right to set their own rules (subject to reasonable debate about interpretation).

Re: Wot No Hat?
On the scorer bit I think you could only nominate a name for each goal you thought OUFC would score, eg if you said Oxford win 2-1 then you named two scorers (or said one would score both)
Re: Wot No Hat?
Wasn’t there some points deductions for grammatical or structural errors in submitting the prediction?
Anyway, Frank or his son has the spreadsheet so all the formulas are in there. All I know is that I’ve never won it (been pretty close a few times mind).
