Nice story. Games where goalkeepers play outfield and/or outfield players go in goal always stick in the mind.

I remember Mike Ford donning the gloves at the Manor against Hull once and keeping a clean sheet (Billy Whitehurst was clean through against him at one point and spooned the ball way over the bar and indeed the Cuckoo Lane Terrace I think). Speaking of Hull, didn’t a goalkeeper once come on as an outfield sub at Boothferry and score against Us too? Alan Fettis?

Scott McNiven was another outfield player who ended up in goal for Us - we won that game. Any others?
Billy Turley did have a go in the penalty shoot-out against Exeter in the Conference play-off semifinal. But the less said about that the better.

Only one keeper has scored for the U's, ‘Porn Star’ Pal Lundin

Incorrect, our current goalkeeper has also scored a penalty.

Alan Fettis did indeed score against us that year. Hull had such a small squad, that after a few injuries, he was named as an outfield player on that day on the basis that he'd scored a few in a five-a-side in the week.

I was living in Hull at the time as a student. This match fell over the Christmas holiday so I travelled up to watch the game, and see my then girlfriend who lived in Hull. She dumped me before the match. I then watched in heartbroken disbelief as Hull's goalie came off the bench as a sub, and then scored...our wheels then pretty much came off and we went from x points clear at the top of the table, to missing out on the play offs.

Bonus point questions:

1.Which other goalkeeper scored against us that season - and no, it wasn't in a penalty shoot-out. It was a real goal.

2. Who else did Alan Fettis score against that season?

Wasn't it Blackpool? No idea who the other keeper who scored against us was.

Speaking of goalscoring keepers I believe we have had 4 not already mentioned who have scored goals (albeit not for us).

One is easy to get, one scored 8 goals over the course of his career, one was probably our most famous and successful goalkeeper (albeit the success was elsewhere) and one played for us in the last 10 years.

Jimmy Glass obvs. No idea about the others. I’ll guess Grobelaar for the famous one (though to call him an Oxford player is tenuous at best).

The goalie from Paraguay - can't remember his name though. He took pens and free kicks and then raced back to his goal area.

Hmmmmmm I think you'll find that anyone who isn't a Rob Duffy fan will argue that a penalty isn't a proper goal.

2 points to KY, minus 5 for RR for suggesting that Paraguay goalie played for us.

The others were Steve Hardwick who (at least according to this site http://www.goalkeepersaredifferent.com/ ... epers.html) scored 8 goals and Scott Shearer who is still on our books who scored 1.

I don’t believe that. Unless he played up front for the youth team or something. But 8 first team goals for Newcastle United? No way.

It was your lazy style of questioning that meant I answered in this way - minus 5 to you.
