Very interesting blog Tom. You're braver than I was at your (approximate) age. I used to hitch, usually to Lancaster and once to Weisbaden for a weekend, but South America was like a different planet in my day!

That was pretty much my sole hitching destination too, with a nice big bag of clean washing from a visit home to my parents.

I have enormous respect for you for taking that sort of journey. I could never imagine myself doing something similar.
