Old footage from 1986

Post by ITFC Jez »

Hi all

Hope you don't mind me registering, but I converted some old videos to DVD/YouTube and had came across the old Ipswich v Oxford match from the end of the 1985/86 season.

For those of you that are old enough to remember, both of us were battling for survival in the top flight in our (Ipswich) last home game of the season with Ipswich sitting 4th from bottom and Oxford 3rd from bottom going into the game.

The game finished dramatically with us getting a late winner, but events in the final weekend of the season saw you survive by beating Arsenal 3-0 at home and us going down after losing 1-0 at Sheffield Wednesday.

Anyway, I wasn't sure if the video clips I had uploaded would be of any interest to you guys, but thought you might be interested and a chance to reminisce the likes of John Aldridge, Ray Houghton, Trevor Hebberd, Steve Perryman, Malcolm Shotton etc.

Hope you enjoy the trip down memory lane and how the game has changed so much.

Hope to see you guys back, at least, at Championship level soon.

Thank you for your time and efforts, Jez. Very considerate of you. I remember the feeling at the end of that game in 86. I was there, it hurt at the time.

Me too.

I winced in part two went Briggsy smashed Terry Butcher !

Look at Butcher's face in pt four in the post match interview.

How was that not a foul on Judge for Ipswich's first goal btw?

I'm not sure how we got the free-kick for the winner either, to be honest.

I was there as well, and had a strong feeling of being robbed at the end. It wasn't made any better by a small minority of the locals celebrating on the pitch at the end and coining the away fans. Never seen so much coinage in the air.

I remember walking back to our transport and a ipswich &quotfan&quot bouncing up and down wanting to take on any oufc fan he could and the coppers just standing and watching him
