I've read the article but nowhere is a £325k transfer fee reported.

Did you see the direct quote in the middle of the article from Evans which starts: &quotI'm an honest manager......&quot

Pure class.

If I was a Luton fan, some harsh realities about a long stint in the BSP would be sinking in about now.

Ha!

The fee is reported as between £275k and £325k.

I wonder if Crawley will exist in 12 months...

But Evans also does not want any of his six strikers thinking they are automatic choices: &quotWe still have Craig McAllister, we still have Jamie Cook...

Not sure what sort of point he is making here...

I read somewhere that Crawley director Bruce Winfield is seriously loaded.

They are debt free and apparently very ambitious to get in the FL.

This would be the team that played away to H&ampY on Saturday to just over 300 fans.

In total.

True, but as soon as the Chairman gets bored, they'll be f*cked (see: Rubbish &amp Dustbins, Gretna, Grays 'Flettic, possibly Histon et cetera &amp ad nauseam - all non-league sides whose dream of making it as a 'proper' club was built on shaky foundations).

Fees like that are totally out of proportion and simply not sustainable in the long run.

Can someone post a link to the FEE?
Can't see it anywhere!

Don't think anyone knows for sure. I'd heard £250k, but other sources say higher. With any sell-on clauses and appearance bonuses, it makes it hard to give a definitive figure.

Even if it was just £250k, that's still a hell of a lot of money for most sides below the Championship, frankly.

Added to which, presumably, will be a pay deal sufficient for him to want to move to another BSP club....

I seriously doubt that they are debt free. They may well be like us and in debt to their Chairman or major shareholder, but they will be in debt.

Boredom - Brooks Mileson / Gretna. I don't think so. Way off the mark there.

Yes, fair point, apologies. I think the point still stands though - relying too much on one person's money isn't sustainable when (for whatever reason) that person is no longer able/prepared to pay the bills.

Winfield claimed in a press conference at the start of July that the club's share capital had been increased from £2 to £500k - indicating that the investment has been made by equity sale rather than loans.

However, the annual return submitted mid-August and dated 1st July (same day as the press conference) shows share capital as being £99.99!
