Apart from Newport, who have already had the bookies paying out on them winning the BSS, it looks like Darlo are doooooomed. With Grimsby winning and Cheltenham losing yesterday the gap there is now just 4 points, so no foregone conclusion.

More interesting is the possibility that Portsmouth might be popping over. I don't think it's as likely as they're making out (echoes of Southampton last season) but it's like that philosophical theory that the more something is discussed the more likely it is to happen.

If Portsmouth wish to start a new club, they should start in the Hampshire County League, or whatever it's called.

The key to this article is the bit from the Pompey Trust spokesman, who states that..

“There is no precedent for a club of our size going out of business, and we think we would be admitted into the Conference. With the number of away fans we have, clubs in lower leagues wouldn't be able to cope.&quot

Well, I don’t see why not, just make the games all ticket. It’s like saying if OUFC got relegated again some clubs in Conference South could not cope, so oh well, let Oxford stay in the Conference Premier.

If you want my take on it, then if Pompey have so many traveling fans (which I don’t think they do as it happens) then put them in Conference North rather than South. That should cut down the number of away supporters.

General rule lower down the ladder with phoenix clubs is that they drop two, sometimes three divisions (in addition to any relegation) depending on where spaces exist. Reprieves always fill the subsequent gaps rather than extra promotions.

Hence the CFU run AFC Chester are aiming at Unibond Div 1 North...so AFC Pompey would reappear in League 2, though with it being the Premiership &amp Football League then Conference National is always a possibility.

As far as I’m concerned then if Pompey die then they should start again with a bit of grass and a rope around it, then maybe that would act as a salient lesson to every other ‘big’ football club who “chase the dream
