On the whole the glass is half empty for me:

Saturday 8 August York City (H) Always like to start at home

Tuesday 8 September Luton Town (H) Potentially the biggest fixture of the season and they put it on a Tuesday night?

Saturday 14 November Kidderminster Harriers (a) Pie day.

Saturday 19 December Cambridge United (a) Bet it gets moved to Friday night.

Monday 28 December Salisbury City (a) They couldn't cope with us over Christmas last season so why are we back again this year?

Friday 1 January Rushden &amp Diamonds (a) What's the betting I get to Northampton to hear it's called off again!

Tuesday 23 February AFC Wimbledon (H) Another big one on a Tuesday night

Monday 5 April Salisbury City (H) Big? fixture for the bank holiday

Pretty good fixture list I think. Home game to start. Home game on Boxing Day, decent location for final game.

Long drives to Gateshead and Barrow on Saturdays.

Don't care if Luton and Wimbledon are on Tuesday nights. Hopefully it will deter troublemakers and we can't have every match on a Saturday.

Wimbledon away on a Saturday will be fun for getting there and parking. Kingston is a nightmare on a Saturday afternoon &amp Kingsmeadow won't be able to cope with the inevitable numbers that will make the trip. Sure to end up all ticket.

August will be an interesting test &amp three more tricky games in September.
October and November more comfortable (although only 8 games compared to the 14 in Aug/Sep).
Then 8 games in which we play two clubs twice.
8 games from end Jan to start of March which will be tough
Then very little to fear over the last 7, except that opponents may be playing for their survival.

I think the start is not bad, as it may help to temper expectations a little. Hopefully we will be reasonably placed after these, when the easier run in Oct/Nov will push us on.
Dec/Jan will be keep us there or thereabouts, after which we'll know what we have to do in the tougher run across February. If we are still well placed after that, then we should be able to hold it together in the run in.
....Perhaps!

Rushden and Salisbury have clearly been picked as our 'local' opponents, given the dates, but I do think it would have made more sense to substitute in Luton given the potential audiences for these games.

Wimbledons ground only holds about 800 away fans and as they will sell out their section people won't get in.

As we saw against Woking teams down there are down there because they're rubbish and if we play well we'll beat them.

From Kettering onwards they are all games we should win.

Bloody typical, the Histon away game is both before I move to Cambridge and when I am on holiday, grump, grump.

800? Darn it! I guess as this is the first year for a long time that I won't have a season ticket, I'm gonna have to get used to struggling to get tickets for games like this!

Might even struggle if you were a ST holder.

Yeah, but just look at the first ten games…

Newcastle away on September 26th is interesting. I wonder how much flights cost?

I guess it depends on where you fly from and which airline and what dates!

Indeed, but no more Setanta means you can at least get your travel arrangements committed in advance without worrying about the date of the game changing at short notice.

But there may be a sub for Setanta waiting to come off the bench.

A quick search shows that if you want to fly up and back on the same day then you have to buy two single tickets. If you fly up on the Sat and back on the Sun from LHR the cheapest flight I've found was GBP104. It's considerably cheaper (but less convenient) to fly from Luton or Stansted. Flights take about an hour (plus booking in time and getting to and from the airports).

Driving will take about 4.5 hours each way (depending on traffic) and will cost approx GBP85 in petrol costs.

I may be taking bookings on the Feverbus soon.
