I think it was only 1 for Slumdon (unless you count the 1 when the league barred their promotion).

Aa a Reading resident, I'd like to express my feelings of condolence to all the local fans, particularly all the new fans who have been attracted by top division football and all the youngsters in their pristine blue and white tops, innocents undoubtedly crushed by this setback ....

I just saw shots of Biscuit fans crying on MotD and couldn't help wondering how long exactly they'd been going to watch their beloved Reading.

When they first got promoted I quite liked it when they gave the big boys a run for their money - I could never bring myself to really hate a team as insignificant as Reading - but I was particularly amused by their relegation today. They've had more than their fair share of the limelight for a few decades now.

The only thing which is tempering my good humour at Reading going down is missing out on the hilarious view of Fulham imploding financially.

I was watching the Portsmouth v Fulham game on Setanta (which was pretty rubbish) and I actually cheered when Fulham scored. How sad is that?

Poor old Reading. I feel so sorry for them.

I know a couple who live in Thame who are Newcastle and Man Utd &quotfans&quot who bought season tickets at Reading half way through their promotion season to ensure they could get Premier League season tickets if they went up. That probably typifies a large percentage of current Reading fans. I doubt whether they'll be back next season to watch the likes of Swansea, Burnley, Cardiff and Plymouth.

To be honest I don't really mind about such glory fans - that's the way the Premier League works - It's the original scumbag Reading fans who used to come to The Manor and try to smash up the pubs and kick down the fences in the ground that I'm happy to see get a reality check.

I agree, and also the Reading fans who sang &quotwe'll never play you again&quot. I'm looking forward to the next match.

Reading will struggle big time next season, becasue their fan base will diminish rapidly, but Reading will still be paying Premier League wages, even given the parachute payments, I can easily see them following the likes of Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester.

Er...Fulham are a nice club with a proper history. Decent supporters as well.

If memory serves (which is a dangerous assumption), on one of our last visits to the Madejski in a league game the crowd (incl. Oxford fans) was about 6,000. Can anyone with a better memory confirm that? If so, there can't have been that many 'lifelong' Reading fans in tears.

No, I cannot take any delight in Fulham surviving AGAIN! They have apparently been in the top flight for 8 years and have contributed nothing of any worth and their long-overdue relegation would have offered a rare glimmer of joy for this season....

But, with Fulham surviving again, MKD getting promoted, Liverpool still qualifying for the Champions League despite bringing the game into disrepute at almost every turn, Alty being repreived again, and the myriad of north-west sides that clog up the lower-half of League 2 but never actually get relegated all surviving to contribute nothing again next season, not to mention the last 13 months at Grenoble Road, then this season has been a complete let-down for me on virtually all fronts, from the moment Steven Gerrard dived to cona referree on the first weekend of the season, to Fulham scoring their only chance on the south coast (unless Palace or Watford can add another dagger by coming back to claim the playoff spot)...

...the only positives are promotions for Oxford City and AFCW, ManUtd holding off Chelsea, potentially two long-absent names returning to the top-flight (Stoke plus Hull/BristolC) and Stevenage missing out, but after that there has been precious little to be happy about, except clinging to the hope that somehow the last couple of months can carry on into a successful campaign for us next season (which will outweigh all other let-downs), but that still seems a long way away....

...ah well, roll on pre-season.

Your were right - to say that assuming your memory served you right was a dangerous assumption.

We've played them twice at the MadJetSki.

7/11/99 - Won 2-1 infront of 10,101 in what is now League 1 (I seem to remember Rob Folland scoring the winner but my memory could be equally dodgy)

29/10/00 - Lost 4-3 infront of 16,022 also in League 1
