The two separate rumours

Post by Yellow River »

(1) The wage rumour regarding how much Yemi, Petts and Hutch are 'earning'.

(2) The rumour about two other people being offered the managers before Patto, but both turned it down.

I'm sory if it's already been discused elsewhere but I could easily imagine that the two are linked , - the managers job was offered but not accepted because of the wage / budget restaints that the the new manager would have to work within.

Patterson may have been third choice but perhaps he was the only one who was prepared to work with the budget restrictions.

All speculation I know.

To my mind the jury is still out on Patto ( I didn't agree with Corcorans departure and I can't understand why Rose isn't starting) however he appears to be working hard and trying to build his own team within a much tighter budget than Smith had, therefore for the time being he deserves our support.

ps I have also posted this on TIU but have now decided to join rage onlione on a free transfer as TIU is getting worse by the day.

You've said there are rumours, but haven't told us what they are, except in very general terms.

Care to expand on them?

i have no idea what Yemi was earning, but before he joined us he was driving a white van, wasn't he? so i'd be amazed if he was in a position to even ask for a decent wage!

Smith: &quotYemi. Wanna play pro football?&quot

Yemi: &quotEr, yes. Please.&quot

Smith: &quotOkay. What are you on driving that van?&quot

Yemi: &quot£12k p/a. Plus free petrol.&quot

Smith: &quotRight. How's £12k p/a,not including petrol to play pro full time?&quot

Yemi: &quotYeah. Alright then.&quot

Yes, but he signed a new contract in the close season. After being voted Player of the Year.

It's obvious. He's on the list because his wages are comparatively high. Patterson actually mentioned this post match on Saturday.

I enjhoy watching Yemi. But he has not been performing recently. So can foloow club logic on this one.

Odubade has not performed consistently for almost a year.

He needs a new club and a fresh challenge. He got a decent salary
increase last season but has not lived up to the expectency levels.

Pettefer will leave in the summer, hopefully with Hutchinson,Weedon, Jeannin, Blackwood, Trainer and possibly Willmott.

I would keep Matt Day and Eddie Anaclet, offer a deal to Howard
and try and keep Green on a season long deal.

The jury is out deliberating on Richards, McAllister and Hand.

Generally in agreement with that but I would keep McAllister. He is the best striker we've had for a long time at holding up the ball. When we hit so many long balls it's vital that we have a player who can win the ball and then hang on to it until support arrives/moves.

As for Eddie, if we can have the one that turned up at Stafford then no contest give him a 3 year deal but I'd want to be sure that the old Eddie was gone. If ever a player had a clear cut chance to play for a contract then this is the one.

Of those, I would keep Blackwood, Richards (provided he actually starts to actually socre goals) and McAllister. I've been disappointed with Hand and if I were making the decision today, Hand would not stay.

I'm completely unconvinced by Day and Anaclet.

Day is a hoofer and doesn't have sufficient pace for a full back. His slight advantage is as a utility player but I don't think that is enough.

Anaclet shows occassional brilliance and a lot of dross in between and again we need more than that.

I refrain making judgements onwho should stay or go because I don't know how much they are costing.

What I do know is that Patterson is completely hamstrung by daft deals agreed by Smith.

But since then he has made hisown daft deals, extending Turley and Quinn's contract when there was no rush to do so and offering Rose a contract and then not playing him.

Specualtion is fun but irrelevant. If Hutch is on Div One wages and has a year left he won't begoing anywhere until next January earliest.

Yemi was certainly on peanuts when he arrived. In the first six months of the Smith tenure he was treated like sh1t. Then all of a sudden he became a star for six months before the pendulum swung back again.

The prescence ofMr Smith at the club is a huge issue for me.He should have been kicked out 18 months ago.He is still here because Merry needs him as protection for his own sake.

Bit harsh on Matty Day there GY.

He is young and defends strongly pretty much most of the time
I feel. There is nothing wrong with a defender &quothoofing the ball&quot. It depends in what context and what situation a defender is in.

Day has two good feet, is strong, hard working and honest. He is on a modest salary I understand.

His versatility may see him rewarded with another deal.

As far as we know. We don't know who might have been sniffing around them (or what their agents were saying).

Rose is still very young, and Patto has so far shown a healthy predilection for protecting the youngster. I'm sure Rose will get his chance, but I suspect that Patto will pick and choose which games to play him in - I would be surprised if he wasn't involved against Stevenage, because they're less likely to kick lumps out of him than, say, Stafford.

The 'numbers' as quoted on messages attached to the online OM article on Yemi are that he is on £1200 a week and Hutch and Pettifer were on £2k per week.

I don't think those figures are right. My understanding was that Gilchrist was the highest paid player at the club (before he left obviously) and was on £1k per week plus bonuses.

Gilly was on at least half that again (or so a &quotreliable source&quot informed me).

That's not what Gilly told a very good friend of his.
