Beattie seems to have spent some of his own money at Accrington - I wonder if he's got enough spare to buy the stadium if he gets the job?!?!

I filmed a piece with James Beattie earlier this season. He was a decent fella. It was quite clear he was angling for a job elsewhere, mind, and I seem to recall he mentioned he lived down South.

Here's the video: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23726996

That's not a great example to the players now is it.

Massive gamble at this time of the season but with three of any 11 of the 20 Prem teams potentially going into a financial doomsday scenario (i.e. the Championship) the majority of Prem club owners panic and change the management. No different to the gamble IL took in getting rid of Wilder when success or fail (albeit in different League circumstances) is on knife edge at this time of the season.

Thing is, they know little about football so if you’re going to make that decision then to appoint a person within the club is better imho than starting all over again with a ‘big name’. Lewis at Oxford and Monk at Swansea would be better bets for me.

Mooro wrote:Beattie (7/4) and Lewis (2-3/1) clear leaders now, Keen, Fowler & Allen (8s, 8s & 9s with Paddy, higher elsewhere) next, then Tisdale 12s, Boothroyd 14s, SOD 18s... STanJames have Dave Penney at 16s, but are the only ones to even mention him....mind you they also have new Dundee manager Hartley in there as well.
Monk still odds on at Swansea, Hoddle and Jones out to 8s
Shrews and Blackpool markets are stagnant
After today's win, Lewis goes favourite, with BetVictor and SkyBet placing him one fifth either side of evens.
SkyBet have BEattie and Keen much shorter than BV, with the others drifting. You can now get 33/1 on O'Driscoll, which is interesting given that he was allegedly at the game today! (Interestingly Mike Jackson has also overtaken SOD as favourite for the Shrews job with SkyBet, so who knows?)

Could be interesting to see how the bookies judge someone like SOD being appointed alongside Lewis, for example, a lot could rest on what could be fairly vague job titles...

Victors and SkyBet now have 20/1 bar Lewis, Beattie, Keen and Fowler, except that Nicky Law has suddenly come in again - now 12/1 with SkyBet.
StanJames are being more cautious with Keen, Allen, boothroyd, Fowler, Penney and Tisdale all between 12-16/1

Poor Felix Magath - must be tough knowing you are on lower odds of getting sacked than Sam Allardyce!

Bookies consistent in their ordering, but vary on their odds:

SkyBet: Lewis (5/4), Beattie (9/4), Keen (8), Law (10), Fowler (12), Tisdale (20), SOD (22), 25/1 Bar
Victors: Lewis (4/5), Beattie (4), Keen (14), Fowler (16), Law/Boothroyd/Tisdale (20), 25/1 Bar
StanJames: Lewis (8/11), Beattie (9/2), Keen/Law/Boothroyd (16), Fowler (20), 25/1 Bar
PaddyPower: Lewis (5/4), Beattie (21/10), Keen/fowler (8), Allen (9), Tisdale (11), B'royd (14), SOD (16), Law (20), 25/1 Bar

Sky Bet rules - probably why ML is current favourite.
-------------------
Next Permanent Manager

You're betting on: who will be appointed the next permanent manager of a club/country

Others available on request
Every effort will be made to quote all potential new managers for the market, but should a manager not quoted be appointed, all bets will stand.
Caretaker and interim managers will not count unless they complete at least 10 competitive games and they will then be deemed the permanent manager.
Should a club appoint a director of football this will not count in the settlement of permanent manager markets.
In the event that a club change the structure of their management team and do not call the appointed individual first team manager, SkyBet will settle the market on the individual who is responsible for selecting the first team. In the event of any ambiguity over the appointment, SkyBet may determine using its reasonable discretion how to settle the market based on all the information available to it at the relevant time.

Jose Riga replaces Chris Powell at Charlton

No changes with the other vacancies, except that ML is the only caretaker not actually confirmed to the end of the season...

I make it just one black manager left now out of the top 92 clubs, and his position is hardly secure...

I wonder if Powell will apply for our job? We could do worse (and yes, of course we could do better...)

Unless we are a long way down the road with another contract negotiation, I would be extremely disappointed if IL and son are not at least putting a phone call into Powell's agents.

My Charlton supporting friends were devastated that he'd been sacked, and are now convinced they're for the drop. "A wonderful man and a great manager" was one quote. Of the available options, he's right up there for me.

How does a great manager get you to the bottom of the table? That doesn't seem to make any sense.
