In any case, before the internet I always paid my licence fee but as an exile couldn't tune into the Radio Oxford commentaries so you could argue I wasn't getting full value. Now I can pay what, 10.4 pence a day, and access commentaries on EVERY game (not just those involving OUFC but all other league teams) + ancillary preview and review videos and interviews etc and I think that's pretty good value*.

10.4 pence a day or an extra pint a month: you pays yer money and you makes yer choice!

*Assuming the b@stard thing is working of course!

That's the point though, it doesn't work, so we are paying for a service that is not working and there is no other recourse. People suggesting following shite on Twitter is the same as listening to a game must be on a different planet.

As has been pointed out to you on several occasions in the past, and again by Hog now, you have not already paid for anything on the radio, and you certainly haven't paid anyone for internet broadcast rights as the BBC don't own them. But I really can't be arsed with this if you're just going to pretend that basic facts are somehow fiction.

The value for money argument is much more pertinent. The service is not always great, hence the petition (which I have signed). Having said that, I haven't experienced many of the problems that seem to have plagued other users. I only get to listen to maybe a game a month, due to work commitments and generally trying to get to games when I'm not working. That costs me about £3 a pop, which I'm reasonably happy to pay seeing as the club benefit. They don't otherwise benefit from my self-imposed exile and resulting dramatic decline in attendance. I can subscribe for 3 years for the money it costs me to attend just one home game (taking travel costs into account). It really is chickenfeed.

Although I agree with the rest of the point, unless everyone who works on BBC Radio is a willing volunteer, all of the buildings are leased gratis by public-spritied landlords, all of the hardware is donated by manufacturers keen to be seen to help out Auntie, and all of the power is provided by magic electricity fairies, then it must be being paid for by license fee payers.

It's called the TV license because it's levied on TV owners, not because that's all it pays for.

The Chairman of OxVox, along with HOG - who shouldn't go without praise for doing an online petition and getting this as a talking point again, are discussing this with the club. Furthermore, when the Directors - whilst abroad - are tweeting similar messages about the quality of Yellow Player then it's clearly an area which is being or about to be addressed.

Just a quick clarification: although I posted the link to the petition at the top of this thread I can't claim any credit for starting this, it was actually Dave Hoare (Hamworthy Yellow) from the Exiles website who took the initiative. I have been confused with him before (probably because I did some fundraising under the Exiles banner a few years back) but you can tell us apart as he is of average height, proportionate build, bald head and lives in Dorset whereas I am unfeasibly tall, borderline obese, bald head and live in Hampshire. Hope that helps!

Before the internet you paid for your TV licence and got 'free' BBC radio including regionalised broadcasting eg RadOx but if you didn't live in the area you couldn't access it but no-one complained because the technology didn't exist. Although the technology now exists for it to be heard internationally the BBC are unable to secure a contract that allows them to do that. Therefore you have to pay a different source a fee to hear the commentary which happens to be supplied by the BBC who, presumably, get paid for their efforts (I have no idea whether this last assumption is correct!).

The BBC isn't unique in this regard. eg I pay my vehicle excise licence (tax disc) on two cars which means I can use them on any public road as I've paid my dues. But if I want to park on certain public roads I have to pay even more money for the privilege (and a damn sight more than 10.4p a day!).
