I'm frankly amazed that everyone without exception so far seems to think we're going to finish in the play-offs or better.
Newly promoted sides tend to do quite well in their first year up.

I looked it up and that's not quite true, only Exeter in recent years have done really well. Hereford went up in their second year and pretty much all the rest in the last few years have settled for mid table obscurity.

2007/8 Exeter 4th in BSP
2008/9 Exeter 2nd in League 2

Carlise, Doncaster would be other recent examples of straight through. Since two up, 2002-3, the average position of promoted sides is 13th, if I've got my calculations correct.

In the seven years sinceplay-offs were introduced, 3 of the winners have gained automatic promotion the following season. I think.

Trouble is, I haven't got nearly enough of a clue what the other teams in this league are like to want to try putting them in any kind of order. With the team we've got, and remembering what the league was like when we were last in it, I reckon we'll finish just above mid-table. Maybe push for a play-off spot if we discover some consistency. I neither know, nor care, who will be above or below us.
&quotYankee Clipper&quot wrote:Also, are you going to Burton?
No. I work almost every Saturday, so my attendance is mainly limited to non-Saturday fixtures. Of which there are far fewer this season than last, sadly.
