On what are you basing that opinion? You google Firefox not connecting you get over 1 Million hits...

As I said, from personal experience at our site with 80|| XP machines, we haven't had a single issue of this. Not that I am saying that there isn't an issue, but I am saying that it isn't 'huge'

7.2m hits on Google just for this specific problem, versus 80 machines all run in the same way at the same location by one person.

Clearly you're not experiencing the problem, and I wish I knew what you were doing differently. Many others clearly are having problems though, and to extrapolate your experience to make a case that there isn't a huge problem, when a specific Google search shows 7.2m others with the same problem, is stretching it a bit.

Clearly we're not going to reach the same conclusion on this.

Nah probably not! I suppose I just don't believe much of what I read on the internet, and add much more weight to my own observations (especially on something like browser choices, where there is a lot of vocal 'fanboy' rants all over the place)

What am I doing differently? Don't know, but our installation is a mix of Dell servers, desktops and laptops, all XP, and we have WSUS pushing all the MS updates (after verification) to the clients. We don't allow any browser other than IE, due to custom online portals written specifically for the browser (well except IT of course, we can install any we want, I also have FireFox 3). Possible malware problem causing the issue? I would suggest this is far more likely than any particular MS patch. I Don't know, and probably won't have any idea until I see a machine with the problem first-hand, which hopefully won't happen.

Naughty to suggest that 7.2M hits on google equals 7.2M problems of course, but I will let that slide by...

anyway, i wanted to hijack your thread if i may, and ask anyone else who's not making the journey whether they'll be around in the rageonline chat room?
Yes. Where is everyone?
sorry, after all the jokes on here about internet problems, i duly suffered them. this thread suddenly becomes very pertinent, and i'll be looking at google chrome too...
So did I! I couldn't stream BBC Radio for some reason, so couldn't hear the commentary. Was hoping to rely on the chatroom for what was going on. Had to lurk on the TiU match thread instead.

And in case anyone is interested, I downloaded google chrome (download speeds were fine) and still couldn't stream BBC Radio.

I occasionally have those problems with BBC streaming but have found that if you go to bbc.co.uk/oxford and click on 'listen live' to the station rather than the match link on there or on bbc sport site, it always works. Fixed it for me t'other night. Worth checking out in the future.

I hate Internet Explorer. Both Chrome and Firefox are far quicker, more reliable and generally superior.

I regularly used to 'listen-live' using Firefox until about a month ago when it suddenly stopped working. Something to do with BBC changing their broadcast method. But is still works under IE.

But as their is an abundance of computer gurus on here a question for you.

Just bought a touch-screen PC but having trouble setting up the broadband. Was asked by a Sky broadband technician to right-click on of the screen options. I'm stumped.

&quotpress and hold for a coupla seconds&quot may well do the trick for right mouse functionality

The correct collective noun for two is an &quotargument&quot. For more than two it's a &quotflaming row&quot :)

Does Opera still exist, is anyone running it? I seem to recall that Rageonline was a problem using it, though. Not sure I understand why you'd reject IE as part of Microsoft's Evil Empire and then run another Evil Empire's software! I've not had any major problems with FireFox on either this or RadOX but horrible IE problems (so I don't run it unless I absolutely have to do so).

Apple has always been the evil empire to me, overpriced hardware, restrictive software, and annoying arrogant fanboys...

Far more &quotevil&quot than either MS or Google in my book.

They're not overpriced, they are expensive. There is a big difference.

No, standard PC architecture, Intel chips, standard bus....

They are overpriced. You could build something that runs the Apple OS for much cheaper than Apple do (and companies have, only to be shut down).
