Well, here we are in a jolly 18th position in Division V, but the tables don’t count at this stage of the season do they?

Anyway here is where we were this time last year, and this is when it got so bad Jim Smith stepped aside.

It's interesting to see where Exeter City were on the second league table - two points above us!

Now 19th but looking at the Division V table I really can’t see how we can fall any further.

So, here we are, the exact day in the last 50 years of Oxford United history when things hit the lowest point*

Until next week, when we go bust and get 10 points deducted.

Surely the one thing every Oxford supported has learned by now - there's no such thing as a &quotlowest point&quot. It's like falling down the stairs - every so often you smack your head really hard and think &quotThat must have been the hall&quot, only to find it was the landing.

An odd comparison, seeing as there's usually a bottom to any given staircase. Although

So, the improved simile is:

&quotSupporting Oxford United is like falling down an Esheresque staircase, with a liberal sprinkling of morphine-coated caltrops on the half-landings.&quot

One place off the relegation places.

And I note that on Tuesday, we play Cambridge (sixth) while Altrincham play Lewes (bottom).

(Edits three days later: no they don't, they just played them. Tuesday is Mansfield.)

Flicking through Howland this morning, I'm not sure we've been in a non-league relegation zone since Harry Thompson was sacked: that season, anyway.

It seems some inhabitants of TIU have actually managed to come up with an idea to acheive just this, and are campaigning actively for the appointement of no other than......

....Steve Evans!

Not many things would bring my support of this club to an end, but that would be one of them!

Another rumour I read on another site was John Hollins.

I would assume that Hollins talking to Oxford could constitute the possible &quotBreach of contract&quot which Weymouth are investigating.

Prior to arriving at Weymouth did Hollins have any more experience of Conference Level football than Smith did when he came back?

Wasn't he manager at Crawley for a year or so?

I recollect that he was Crawley's Manager and did pretty well.

He used to be Chelsea manager, in the 1980s, but that is no recommendation for anything.
