Me too.
And boring.
Lets get original.
I want to beat the Germans not because they are Germans but because they are our opponents in the round of 16.
History is just that - history.
Indeed, agree 100%

And it could well be Argentina next, so someone remind me who started the Falklands War...

Am I alone in finding it odd hearing Oxford fans referring to England as &quotwe&quot/&quotour&quot. I know I'm much less of a nationalist than most people, but I just can't get my head around people supporting two teams. I assume (with no evidence to do so) that people on here would support United if they ever played England?

Yes, I find it odd that you thnk this odd Boris.

I support two teams. Club and country. Easy enough.

Oxford are never going to play England anyway are they?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjF8sjuPLxU - on the enclosed YouTube link there is only about a quarter of a million views in that very short clip, but I doubt that that many people who live here have not seen the whole film from start to finish, and it was made well before the 1966 WC Final with Them.

Seems to me that one or two RO contributors have lost a bit of national pride here, but that's up to you..

Consider yourselves lucky I only live in England rather being being born here, otherwise this board would have been flooded with mindless posts about sticking up for your team and your Nation. Swissbloke may also say something about that as at least he and I live on the same mental planet as some of you English contributors.

p.s Good to see that Japan are still in the mixer. I hope they play the USA at some point in time and then Zeke may give Us his considered thoughts, but if it were us playing them I'd stick this link up - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83bmsluW ... re=related - :D

p.p.s. It's only a game, but now things are getting serious...

If Oxford ever play England I shall be busy supporting Hell's ice hockey team!

For a non-national comparison, think how you would feel if Oxford City drew Slumdon in the FA Cup. Totally indifferent?

It's &quotour&quot fan's dressing up a crusaders that's get's me. It could be the football, the cricket, the rugby... You'll always get someone turning up dressed head to toe in an outfit which men wore to massacre millions of Muslims thought Europe and the Middle East in.

How long 'til German fans feel it's okay to turn up in SS Officer uniforms?

I absolutely love my country, despite what a decade of socialism's tried to do to it. I just don't find it necessary to prop up that love and pride with pointless vilification of another country. I desperately want to beat Germany, but more to shut Beckenbauer and get revenge for Italia '90.

I also have a lot of German friends, and I find them much easier to like than the French, or quantum-help-us the Russians.

Comedy story: some of my German friends came to stay with us at our Victorian house in what is still known as &quotBomb Alley.&quot When we were showing them round, one of them noticed a curious bulge in the wall.

&quotWhat caused that?&quot they asked.
&quotOh, that's just a bit of old bomb damage,&quot says I.
&quotReally? When did that happen?&quot asks another.

Cue awkward silence......followed by laughter from all. Then we tucked into the lovely beers they'd brought with them.

Aylesbury fans probably thought that 20 years ago.

It irks me too. However, given that the logical answer to your second question is &quotabout eight hundred years&quot I'll let you fret about that part! :P

That's no comparison at all. I'd obviously want Swinedon to lose, as I would even if they were playing anybody else.

And if you think that the last Labour government bore any resemblence whatsoever to Socialism then you're in desperate need of some political education.

We've also played Bulgaria, among others (see my forthcoming book Oxford United: Miscellany for further details  )

I expect most fans who dress up as a crusader are doing it because of the traditional image of St George, rather than any thought about it representing the crusades.

I don't remember any complaints about Mexican fans dressing up as Incas / Aztecs.
