Maybe I really am the only one who finds reference to two events that saw the deaths of tens of millions of people and one football match nearly half a century ago rather pathetic and desperate. Is that really all our country has to show for the last 100 years of endeavour? Sorry - I forgot about that other match more recently......

Am I alone in finding it odd hearing Oxford fans referring to England as &quotwe&quot/&quotour&quot. I know I'm much less of a nationalist than most people, but I just can't get my head around people supporting two teams. I assume (with no evidence to do so) that people on here would support United if they ever played England?

I absolutely love my country, despite what a decade of socialism's tried to do to it. I just don't find it necessary to prop up that love and pride with pointless vilification of another country. I desperately want to beat Germany, but more to shut Beckenbauer and get revenge for Italia '90.

I also have a lot of German friends, and I find them much easier to like than the French, or quantum-help-us the Russians.

Comedy story: some of my German friends came to stay with us at our Victorian house in what is still known as &quotBomb Alley.&quot When we were showing them round, one of them noticed a curious bulge in the wall.

I expect most fans who dress up as a crusader are doing it because of the traditional image of St George, rather than any thought about it representing the crusades.

I don't remember any complaints about Mexican fans dressing up as Incas / Aztecs.
