Maybe Jim'll try to re-sign Tardif for RWB!!!

"Maybe Jim'll try to re-sign Tardif for RWB!!!"
Just to clarify, that was a joke and not the official club SMS?

"neilw" wrote:You miss the point GY. But, as you say, "he will face much much bigger losses to write off" Exactly !!!
The current level of debt is at the risk of WPL, not OUFC. When the club is eventually handed over to and run by another entity, trust or whom ever, they won't be taking on the current level of debt. So, £4m, £5m, £10m, £20m of WPL debt. Does it make any difference?
Mr K needs to start thinking about what the true value of that stadium really is.
The actual amount of debt does make a difference because at some point Lenagan is going to turn off the tap. He's almost certainly just about to be announced as the new owner of Wigan Warriers (that makes a collection of 3 teams playing in rented stadiums) and that will only make him tighten the purse strings at a club that is probably 4th or 5th on his priority list. At some point there is a very serious risk of an important bill going unpaid (stadium rent, VAT, inland revenue, etc) a winding up order could follow. Whatever owners may say they almost never walk away and write off all the money they are owed.
Who's going to come in and pay the unpaid bills, settle with Lenagan (even for a percentage) AND provide on-going loss funding?
As a football league club the chances of going under completely are far less and the media spotlight can help to keep a club alive but who gives a shit about non-league clubs - they're only a bunch of amateurs after all and they're always going bust.
As for Kassam he's only too aware of the real value of the stadium and the land it sits on which is why he's not ging to be dropping the asking price any time soon.

"3 teams playing in rented stadiums" ........... High risk business portfolio isn't it. Not to mention spreading himself thinly. It's a good job he's appointed Merry to guide us through

We might get Maurice Lindsay as Chief Exec, driving another Bentley for the fans to pay for.

People moaned and moaned about Kassam & when the "Kassam out" campaigners were asked what next when you have got him out the reply was something like - "Party Time". No real thought for the future.
We all knew we were going nowhere upwards particularly fast with FK in charge. But would we have been worse off if he was still the owner? (Hindsight is a great thing isn't it). At least he ensured that the finances were sorted even if it did piss off many people.
We were told that OUFC felt like a real football club again. The club is (supposedly) now run on professional lines. We have a permanent training ground. We have a full time fitness coach. We have a full time masseur. (Or did I dream the last one). We have a bigger budget than our rivals.
So what the **** have gone wrong?
And is it beyond fixing?

Some good questions, Baboo. I’ll make the first attempt at answering them, at the very high risk of getting my head bitten off!
1. “People moaned and moaned about Kassam “ and “We were told that OUFC felt like a real football club again. The club is (supposedly) now run on professional lines. We have a permanent training ground. We have a full time fitness coach. We have a full time masseur. (Or did I dream the last one). We have a bigger budget than our rivals.

"everyone that Kassam had angered since the day he took control" ........... A list of those he didn't anger would be interesting, Snake. D'you want to make a start on that one?

Nope, but I'm happy for others to start.

Pretty much spot on with those scenarios hissing John.
What is really pissing me off about this is where have all the drama queen storm the boardroom lot bogged off to now.
I guess the trustafarian has now inherited and purchased an island in the Philippines and a townhouse in Camden.
It was such a pathetically easy hit from people who have no idea of the real world, I still get annoyed about the amount of vitriolic messages I got for saying, just hold on chaps, aren't we rushing into this a bit, how come Jim and Nick have had a Damascus moment after all these years.
I know we once won a poll for having the ugliest fans, we would probably get a landslide in one for the most delusional fans now.

The club is now run more like a real fotball club again and thats one of the main reasons why the debt keeps mounting. That in itself wouldn't be too much of an issue if we were top of the table and looking like a promotion side, but we're not top of the table and we look just like any other conference side.
Nick and Jim aren't up to their respective jobs (if Nick has an identifiable job of any description) and they've managed to persuade their mate Ian to stump up the cash and use his business acumen to produce a strategy. On the field we are now at the mercy of Ian Lenagan telling Nick Merry that his mate Jim just isn't up to the job and is the best part of a decade past his retire by date. Off the field the downward debt spiral is starting to pick up momentum. 2 months into the season and we are a very long way adrift of the trumpeted budget and plan.
If Lenagan has the balls to fix the problem on the field then he has a chance of halting the financial melt down but he's going to have to do it quickly before we reach terminal velocity and it becomes too late to salvage the season and the disaster that a third conference season will almost certainly bring.

I never really minded Kassam. He just seemed to have unbelievably bad luck with picking managers.
Before anyone starts up, yep, I know that a lot of people with 'inside connections' can tell me all about why he was so bad. But since I don't have any inside knowledge myself, I can only go on what I actually know.
As for the financial situation, it is of course only a disaster for the current setup. Any new owner would have their own finances in place.
This is the last chance saloon though. Either we get back into the league this season, or we have to wait for a properly rich, properly Yellow buyer to come along.
Is Henman looking for something to do?

But thats what Merry and Lenagan claim to be. Well Merry is supposed to be properly Yellow and Lenagan is supposed to be properly rich. Funnily enough I believe Lenagan more than I believe Merry - about anything come to think of it.

I think his yellow leanings may have slipped lately. When asked what he was going to do the day after his retirement, he joked "pop down to Stamford Bridge and hand my CV in". Well, he has been living in SW London for a while now, it's only to be expected...

Isn't he a bit of a football tart. He first claimed to be yellow, then claimed to be Fulham, now Chelsea. Maybe he should go the whole hog and switch to ManUre.
