It's retro day at Grenoble Road and Michael Appleton's U's

did the trick - one in each half - and kept the unbeaten
league run going.

Malcolm Shotton and his men headed to Blackpool for a Bank Holiday Monday third division fixture
versus the Tangerines. This, to date, was United's last visit to Bloomfield Road
and they were grateful to Derek Lilley who netted a second half equaliser in front of a paltry
crowd. Clarke Carlisle had earlier given 'Pool a first half lead. Blackpool were relegated
at the end of the 1999-2000 season. John Durnin had a loan spell at 'Pool that season and
ex-U Martin Aldridge was tragically killed in a car accident in Northamptonshire in January 2000.

U's: Lundin; Robinson, Watson, Whelan, Powell; Beauchamp, Tait, M.Murphy, S.Weatherstone; Lilley, Anthrobus

Blackpool: Caig; Bryan, Carlisle, Hughes, Hills; Jim Whitley, Clarkson, Forsyth, Bent; Ormerod (M.Aldridge, 74), J.Murphy

United also complete a deal earlier on deadline day for Doncaster Rovers midfielder Josh Payne,19 who
joined the U's in a loan deal. Payne was signed in time to play at the Recreation Ground.

Bill Asprey's U's moved up to third in the 3rd Division table after the 1-0 victory.

I always thought Craddock was underrated and harshly treated by our fans. I wondered what he was doing now (playing for Spennymoor Town if you're interested), and noticed that his Wiki page appears to have been written by Google Translate! Or maybe it's just fluent smoggy?

Goals from Jamie Cook and James Constable were enough to defeat promotion rivals Luton Town
at Grenoble Road in front of a huge attendance of 10,613 for this Tuesday night fixture.
Constable turned in Matt Green's pull back after Constable had a 3rd minute penalty saved.
Jamie Cook then netted a stunning 25 yard strike past 'keeper Mark Tyler to double the lead.

Luton had midfielder Kevin Nicholls red carded for a scything tackle on Green in the second half.
United remained top of the Blue Square Premier after the win. Hatters manager

Harford was sacked just three weeks later after a poor start to 2009-2010.

Bobby McDonald, 28 made his U's debut in this entertaining draw with Burnley after joining
from Manchester City. United surged into a 2-0 lead thanks to Andy Thomas and George Lawrence.
Billy Hamilton and Brian Flynn were on target for the Clarets. The equaliser came in the dying minutes
at the Cuckoo Lane End much to manager Jim Smith's annoyance.

A sobering reminder of where the club was just ten short years ago.
United drew a Blue Square Conference fixture at Grays Athletic 0-0 on
this bleak Tuesday night at the Recreation Ground. In fact this goalless
draw extended the U's unbeaten run under Jim Smith to seven games.

U's: Turley: Corcoran, Quinn, Gnohere; Day, Pettefer, Hutchinson, Trainer, Jeannin; Odubade, Shaw.

Grays: Flitney; Sambrook; Ashton, Stuart, Gross; Grant, Thurgood, Oli, Hearn; O'Connor, Kedwell

Sobering indeed. For some reason I now can't fathom I travelled up from Cornwall for that game at Grays! It was in the pub at Charing Cross afterwards with some mates that the reality of how low we had sunk really dawned. The first season in the Conference had been a bit of a laugh, despite the ultimate play-off heartache. But returning to these grounds a second time, in front of lower crowds, and being 'happy' with a goalless draw was pretty soul-destroying.

I remember going to that match with you KY, and trying to start this song: 'Gno-here, Gno-there, he's every f***ing where.'

And: 'He's got Gnohere, and we do care, Jimmy, Jimmy Smith'.

But everyone was too depressed to join in.

If you were finding a worst ever Oxford XI picked for a match, the start of that season throw up a few stellar team lists. That's pretty close.

This might be worse:
