Went to look at the team news for tomorrow's game and found that I now have to subscribe to Yellow Player if I want to see who might play for my side. That'll be the side that I follow around the country at great expense already to offer my support. Full details of Southend's team news though:

I'm beginning to lose patience with my 'customer experience'........

Erm, yeah. The owners are running a business.
A lot of Championship sides now have premium (or certainly 'more expensive than local') phone numbers for their ticket office.
I'm sorry John, but a post complaining that the club is trying to commercialise their assets? Anyone would think you work in a gov funded sector...
Are you getting the gravy train to Southend tomorrow?

However Yellow Player is an excellent service and full value for money
at less than 10p per day.
Why would an OUFC fan with an internet connection not have the service I wonder.

Alright Joely, I'll bite. I'm fully aware that the owners are running a business and they do very well out of me in terms of ticket sales, merchandising and dare I say it a decade of running the fans team via which club revenues are increased e.g. by more away fans attending than if the morning fans matches didn't take place."recordmeister" wrote:Erm, yeah. What I do object to is not being able to find basic information about 'the product' on the website. This frustration is exacerbated by being able to source the information from other websites e.g. the BBC football section - why should I have to do that off my own back, the club should provide this information. Surely it's better for me to visit our official website and perhaps whilst there, I may have a moment of extravagance and buy something from the online club shop. Surely it's better for me to feel at one with the club than feel that all they want from me is money - I accept that this is one thing they want from me but customer loyalty is also desirable and not being able to find basic details about the team without paying for it is I think a bit much.
To answer OUFC4EVA's question re why I wouldn't want Yellow Player for less than 10p per day - it's not the money, it's the principle of being asked to pay for simple, basic information about the product on offer.
Joel - If someone was planning to come to one of your excellent whiskey tasting events and asked you what samples you would be bringing, would you say to them:
a) I'm sorry, you'll have to pay me to provide that information
or
b) I'm bringing samples a,b,c,etc. I hope you can come and perhaps you might like to bring a friend?
I suspect it would be b) because you would like them to attend because that would provide you with both revenue and perhaps some loyalty to your evenings in the future.

Er... Maybe because following even a fourth division side these days is a costly business and we'd rather save our pennies to cover the ever-rising cost of travel and match tickets?"OUFC4eva" wrote:Why would an OUFC fan with an internet connection not have the service I wonder.
The thing that has always really bugged me with "Yellow Player" is that it charges you for the privilege of listening to Radio Oxford commentary. Well sorry, but I (happily) pay my BBC licence fee already, so why should I have to pay for the same product twice? Never understood why people stand for that.
