Am I wrong to be outraged by this? Witney's not even anywhere near Reading!

"Kingsley makes a special visit

Hundreds of young players taking part in a special football tournament for girls and boys aged 6 - 16 years, organised by Tower Hill in Witney, Oxford, were overjoyed to welcome fans favourite Kingsley earlier this month.
The Royals mascot mingled with lots of fans, posed for photos and even signed autographs - not an easy job with such big paws!
Budding young footballers had the chance to try their luck in a penalty shoot-out, managed by Reading FC Community Trust Coaches, as they lined up against the Royals mascot and tried to slot one past the extra-large lion! Each person to take part received a goody bags and so headed home with a selection of Royals treats!
Members of Royals staff were also on hand to award certificates to the high achieving youngsters and young players."

Re: WTF?
Essentially, Reading FC sent several staff and their cuddly mascot to an open day at Tower Hill FC, Witney."A-Ro" wrote:Can someone give a summary of the news item please. The iPhone takes you somewhere else.
Thanks.
I understand that Reading, as a larger club, will have contacts with some of our local clubs, and will (sadly) be a more enticing prospect for local up-and-coming footballers. However, to be so brazenly promoting themselves so close to Oxford is taking the piss. It is an obvious attempt to steal fans, rather than just young talent. Isn't it?

Re: WTF?
It is a deep encroachment on Oxfordshire territory – man the barricades!
Seriously, it is something I would hope the club are concerned and doing something about.
Reading, especially now Premier League, are going to be a draw for talent and supporters. However, I would hope that could be limited to the pre-1974 Berkshire (Abingdon, Didcot and Wantage) borders. This and their Oxford City partnership are worrying developments.
