It would appear you are right and it is not a myth."Baboo" wrote:And when we popped up to the Old Show Ground and came back with the legend that is Nigel Cassidy, having decided against Kevin Keegan. Or is that just a myth? (Not the Cassidy bit of course).
From here.
"Scunthorpe were offered the then considerable fee of £20,000 from Second Division Oxford United manager Gerry Summers for the signature of Nigel. This was easily the club’s record fee paid at the time [he was preferred to Kevin Keegan], and the move was designed to arrest the slide in Us fortunes."

Nibble nibble...."Ancient Colin" wrote:Mansell and Midson score again (although on the Duffy Law, Midson's won't count on here). I'd have thought that the concept that Mansell was a great lost talent would be enough to provoke Boris to return.
Edit: on the Duffy law, neither of Midson's goals would count on here ...
I think you'll find the Duffy Law states quite clearly that where more than 50% of goals scored by the player are from the penalty spot, then anyone who rates the player has difficulties in identifying the characteristics of their gluteus maximus when making a direct comparison with their ginglymus.
How many has Midson scored from the spot this season?

They say the scoreboard doesn't show pictures. Well in this case it does:

This forum is a classic football forum sometimes people want to trade on fact (look at his goal scoring record) other times on more esoteric ideals (look at how well he played). Here is a photographic evidence of some hard fact: we gave away the top scorer in the division for nowt.

Re:
I may have mentioned this on here before, but apparently Malcolm Elias was willing to offer Taylor a scholarship, but only as a goalkeeper, as he did not believe he was capable of the fitness levels required to be an outfield player.......

That's because sometimes facts are relevant and sometimes they are not. And sometimes more subjective testament is relevant and sometimes it is not. Just the way of the World that you can't apply one rule and expect it to fit all."recordmeister" wrote:They say the scoreboard doesn't show pictures. Well in this case it does:

I quite agree with those who are upset that we got rid of Midson. A very hard working player who did everything he was asked, but at the end of the day was played out of position in a formation not suited to his style.
If you sign a player they must fit your system, or you change your formation to fit them, or they are caable of changing to fit your formation, there are no other options, and adaptable players at this level are few and far between.
CW was asked if he regretted letting JM go at the fans forum.
- popular lad (on and "off the pitch") and no hard feelings, shook his hand after the away game, which OUFC won 2-0, felt OUFC dealt with their style of play.
- doesn't mind if he scores goals (except for next Tuesday)
- as a choice of centre forward CW reckoned on a show of hands most fans would pick Constable in preference to JM.
- would JM have been happy sitting on the sidelines waiting for change of formation or for JC to be out? / would he have accepted a new contract?
- at Southend he made a handful of appearances and didn't stand out
- no offers came in for him during the Summer [2011?]
- the AFCW offer was just a one year contract
- AFCW suit his style of play, balls up and over to him
- AFCW were 7th from bottom, OUFC 7th from top [prior to Tuesday]
