Cocktail 2 Oxtail 1
McDonald, Jevons, Constable
2444, 444
The game is abandoned after all the available match balls are blown across the river Lune into Lancaster. Ah, Lancaster, home of those renegade red rose usurpers, mused Lord Wilder as, white rose flying proudly, he led his raggle-taggle army to the western edges of the flatlands by the bay. How can he turn the tide, he pondered, looking out over the treacherous sands. Slowly, it dawned: let him discard some of his trusty men, replacing them in January with hired mercenaries. Defeats would follow, it was true: but then, restoring his trustees to the train bands, there would be a return of victories in the spring, victories that, while not yielding the ultimate prize, would lead King Kelvin to leave him in charge for yet another season of sorrow. And so it will be, he thought, so it will be, a faint smile flickering his face as Master Craddock trudged off the field, facing a card as red as the rose of the usurpers.
