Dead interesting was this (non) response. Ok, so apart from the ‘in the mixer’ song (which is now five years old) and the more recent ‘wanna go home’ effort that almost every club has adopted then what other decent terrace chants have we come up with in recent times?
And has really a quarter of a century passed since we sang a different song almost every time we gained a corner kick?
Drumming up support
I heard a Beano song in another carriage on the train back from Hereford, which had apparently been dreamt up in a pub beforehand - to the tune of "the animals went in two by two" - because I refuse to call it the scousers' 'Torres' song. At least it was different, and they sang it again at the Rec.
What disappointed me about Aldershot was :-
- Chelsea Dagger after their goal.
- their drummers seem to have gone. apparently the lad who could play the snare drum has got a job in London, and instead goes to watch Crawley. Without the build up, the fans don't know what to do and the bass drum hasn't got the impact.
at least they aren't the England 'Fans' with trumpets and so on.

As for Sloop John B (I wanna go home, this is the best trip I've ever been on, XXX is a ####hole), surely the original point was that fans sing it at away games, not home games. Evenso, it has become ubiquitous, every group of away fans sing it, and all originality has been lost.
At least the stadium announcer at Dagenham & Redbridge quipped "for any Oxford fans who want to leave early, the exit is through the tea bar underneath the stand"

Trumpets are one of the most annoying things to happen at England games along with the mindless booing of the opponents national anthem.

I met the guy from Sheffield Wednesday who plays the trumpet at Engerland games at a Supporters Direct conference in London many years ago, just a few days after that amazing 5-1 win in Germany. He seemed ok to me at the time but that notion was dispelled a short time later when he opened his presentation with a rendition on his trumpet to about 200 gathered delegates. It was the last SD convention I ever went to...
I still go for this Ultras concept as when a set of fans get it right it does work. It’s hard work at Minchery Farm to do that as we only have three sides and open corners between the stands.
