Yes, it's a cliché. I first saw this pointed out about a decade ago in a long list of football clichés compiled by When Saturday Comes: one just read
fanzines are "excellent".
It used to be how any journalist would acknowledge the existence of a fanzine. They meant well, but it became so overused that after a while it meant nothing.
It's the same now with blogs - and the world of blogs isn't all that different to the world of fanzines. You see reference to "[such-and such's] excellent blog" everywhere.
Meanwhile, this is an excellent resource.

Agree about the overuse of "excellent" to describe fanzines and blogs. Its a catch-all adjective, I always want to know how something excels. Is it funny, informative, thought provoking, comprehensive, insightful, etc.?
BTW I'm talking generally here and not specifically about Dan's use of the word.

It's not difficult to work out who is the author."YF Dan" wrote:http://oxblogger.blogspot.com/
What an excellent read.
I hadn't seen it before today, but have just spent the past few hours reading all the way back to the Leyton match.
Is it written by any of you?
This sums it all up, IMHO.
"This is why football is marketed to the neutral – because being a football fan is shit. It’s not edgy and exciting extra time, penalties and see-saw fortunes are not entertaining. It’s like a dirty addiction – you think you love it, but when you experience it, you realise there’s nothing to love."

Bollocks - Way way of the mark saying it is not edgy and exciting. The shit bit is true though. Or is it? Bet Exeter fans don't think so."Snake" wrote:This sums it all up, IMHO.
