As we leave, the sight of Lenagan handing Wilder a bonus bundle of fivers and giving him a big thumbs up raises doubts about the true nature of the selection process. A ferry boat glides to a halt near Romney Marsh and a hunched figure slips out into the reeds and mud, to slouch towards Oxford for January. The centre cannot hold, the wing backs fall apart.

Us 2 (Constable, Haldane) Them 1 (Moore)

Att: 5555 with 155 of Them

UE: Ian Lenagan makes a surprise appearance on the pitch at half time to make a series of announcements. He proudly states that in future the team strip will be red and white hoops, that we’ll be known as the ‘Oxford Warriors’ and that finally a solution has been found to the Firoka problem in that we’ll be playing at the JJB next season.

UE. Just as he about to come on as a a substitute mid way through the secong half, Phil Trainer grabs the PA's microphone and belts out a personal plea in true Karaoke style &quotPlease release me let me go
for I don’t love you anymore, To waste our lives would be a sin, Release me and let me love again, Please release me can’t you see,
you’d be A fool to cling to me, To live a life would bring us pain, So release me and let me love again&quot Nick Merry turns to Kelvin Thomas and says &quotI didn't know Phil was a Tom Jones fan&quot

James Constable turns out to be a robot, although this fact is unknown to Wilder, who is wearing magic glasses which make the player appear to be human. However, during the game, every time he looks likely to hit the target, Constable's battery runs down and he comes practically to a halt.

Oxford 3-1 Ebbsfleet
Constable, Guy, Yemi - Moore

UE - This is the start of an unbeaten run which sees us finish 4th in the table and then come through the play-offs without any drama or trauma whatsover. All of a sudden, the years of non-league football are forgotten and all is good in the world again.

Edit - forgot you can't put an 8 and a close bracket together without producing that sunglasses wearing idiot.................
