I mean at least they can keep up and never lose their man.

I didn't say I wanted him out, I said I'm undecided."Ascension Ox" wrote:No problem with any of today's decisions. Poor old Eddie Anaclet. Slightly disappointed Pettefer is listed.
Glad Yemi is not listed.
Very disappointed Willmott is not listed.
Glad Marvin isn't listed, provided he is dispensed with in the Summer.
Still undecided on Anaclet.
Glad Rose isn't listed.
Disappointed Trainer isn't listed.
Happy with all the other decisions on who stays and who goes.

Defending starts with the attackers closing down the opposition defenders. Harrassing them to give the ball away freely. That's one of the things Duffy doesn't do that most strikers do. Moving in to space behind the last defender is a classic target man trick. That's another thing that Duffy doesn't do. Yes he wins the ball in the air a lot, but his flick ons are always random in direction. No partner can second guess where they will end up. That's another thing Duffy doesn't do. Holding the ball up. He doesn't do this despite the protestations of some. He challenges for the ball, and often wins it, but this is nearly always followed immediately by a pass back into midfield. He never holds it up to allow midfielders ot join the attack. That's another thing he doesn't do. Pace. That's another thing he doesn't do. Ball control. That's another thing he doesn't do. His strengths are finishing on the occassion that he gets into position, penalty taking, and winning free kicks. It isn't enough."Kernow Yellow" wrote:Debating who should be in the list and who should not misses the point, in my opinion. They're all playing like a shower of shit.
I'm with Ancient Colin on this one. The 'basics' that our players aren't doing are things that they should be being trained to do. The fact that they are not doing them reflects just as badly on Patto as the players. He's been training the team for the last year or so, after all. It's all been said before, but the way we take and 'defend' throw-ins, and take free kicks and corners, is a disgrace that would not be tolerated at Raging Fever level. No other team is as bad as us at this. This is a failure of coaching and management.
Unless Patto has people lined up that he knows will come if we get rid of any of 'the list', then I don't understand what he's trying to achieve. Is he really trying to get rid of them? Or is it one last, desperate attempt to motivate them?
I'll be amazed if this team looks any better without Duffy, to be honest. Patto should be concentrating on getting some service to his strikers, rather than publicly berating them for not chasing lost causes. He got it right once - eventually - with two wingers against Altrincham, but then bottled it against Weymouth, messed the midfield right up at Salisbury, and now it's all the players fault that we're losing again.
Look at the teams at the top of this league - they score bags of goals, and frequently concede 2 or 3 in a game as well. They try and win games by attacking. I don't think Patterson and Lewis understand how to do that. Which is why I think they are the wrong people to be in charge of our football team at the moment.

Pettefer is a shadow of last season's player.
Whether he is injured or not is irrelevant to that. The decision whether to keep him or not should be based on his ability, and he simply can't go past a defender, which is something of a requirement for a winger. I prefer him at right back to be honest and he deserves a chance post injury to show what he's worth, but if he can't show us this season that he can progress, he's another who will need to be released in the summer.
Disagree. He's been mediocre so far."Ascension Ox" wrote:"GodalmingYellow" wrote:I didn't say I wanted him out, I said I'm undecided."Ascension Ox" wrote: No problem with any of today's decisions. Eddie is a decent player. Who we've missed. Wherever he plays.
this is my concern. i worry that patterson's time with the youth team was all about getting the best out of a set of players who had little expectation placed on them, given the league they were in, and having to instill confidence in them (or at least that's my impression - someone who knew that season better can tell me if i'm wrong)."Kernow Yellow" wrote: Or is it one last, desperate attempt to motivate them?
