Papa Smurfs downfall

Post by OtmoorYellow »

Terrible performance in the first half.
Second half better but still below par.
Finishing was shocking, but not from Tranmere.
When I saw the starting line up, contrary to the uninformed Sky presenters, I was concerned that Robbo was not giving the opposition the respect they deserved, and the potential for another Wembley final the chance that it deserved.
You can get away with irregular bit part players in the early rounds because the opposition do the same. But when it gets to the semis, the game needs to be taken seriously.
And so it proved. The defence was shambolic without Atkinson and Long, and whilst little could be done about Long’s absence, not selecting Atkinson to start was a mistake. Much as I love his style, Robbie Hall is no longer at the same level as our first XI, and unfortunately did not have the pace or guile to take on players, and was therefore impotent.
Disappointed, but this will be forgotten if we are able to give ourselves a shot at promotion.
And the Sky coverage was rubbish, seemingly more focussed on the Championship match that would follow.
