The Taming Of The U's

Post by OUFC4eva »

Well that was horrible - a bonus point in point of fact as a disjointed United
struggled to deal with a big, strong, powerful, fit opponent who again pressed high
and suffocated us. The U's simply cannot " get out " , and play a formation
that appears not to suit the players.

A bit like the Portsmouth game - United offered little going forwards
until deep into the second period - but on come the subs and with a bit of pace
and movement the team improves. A win would have been tough on the
impressive Shrews but having got the opening goal with 15 mins to play,
United should have employed a compact shape and seen the game out.

The reverse happened and again there was no solidity late on - just like the Scunthorpe match
where it developed into a basketball game. Shrewsbury exploited the wide areas and cut United
open. Poor defending for their equalizer which they did not learn from and Shrewsbury
should have scored again in time added on, as our left side opened up like the Red Sea.

We are not going to get success with a 4-2-3-1 shape and we need reinforcements
in midfield and attack before the transfer window slams shut.

Johnson looks to be leaving, surely. That is not helping matters in my view.
