Re: Posh point proves potential progress - now including Vale analysis too

I'd been heartened by results in Manning's first three games in charge - I managed to catch the last hour of the Wednesday game in a bar in France and thought we really grew into the second half, and looked more likely to win it. Thus it was that I approached the match at Vale Park with real excitem...

Re: KR in / KR out?

He took over when we were at real risk from relegation (sounds familiar..) When Robinson took over, we had nine points more than we do now from the same number of games. Pep Clotet's record that season (that got him sacked) - 38pts from 29 games. GD +1 (despite the 0-7) Robinson's record that seaso...

Re: Liam Managing

Yes it's a risk, but I'm glad we didn't go down the road of 'bring back the guy who did well before'. That rarely ends well, and Appleton has failed at many more clubs than Manning. He has a massive job on to turn us around. While it's certainly not a lost cause, I don't think I can ever remember a ...

Re: KR in / KR out?

If we get relegated this season it will be a bigger balls up than the relegation to the Conference. Yep. At least then we had the excuse that FK was running the club into the ground and sold all our best playing assets in the January window (partly to avoid having to give some of them new contracts...

Re: KR in / KR out?

I'm a big fan of managerial stability, but he's got to go now. Until a few weeks ago I was confident we wouldn't go down, as we have good, committed players in key central positions and there are some very poor teams in this league. However the recent run of results is beyond terrible, and I don't t...

Re: Give Us A (Stratfield) Brake

The club is financially viable on the present terms at Grenoble Road. Possibly not at the level we want the club to be at, but it can survive and it does survive. I think that rather depends on how you define financially viable. The club survives because rich people bankroll it, not because it is p...

Re: Give Us A (Stratfield) Brake

We are not going to be homeless when the KasStad license ends as some have talked about, as there is a clause that permits renewal of the license on the same terms as the existing license. We might be clubless though. The club is not viable financially while paying rent 'on the same terms' as the c...

Re: Gonners

I also had a ticket but watched from home on TV - too much work on to justify the time away and travel. There wasn't actually that much in it - their first goal came from a free kick that should never have been, the second from a silly error by McGuane, and the third was offside. But the frustrating...

Re: All over bar the shouting

It's funny, it feels like we're quite a good team - the first halves of both recent home games were very watchable, scintillating in places, and the performance at Hillsborough was pretty impressive. Even during the first half hour at Portman Road we matched one of the best teams in the league. But ...

Re: Sheffuc*ing Frozen Until About Wednesday

I went. A proper football ground with real history - albeit walking in through the Leppings Lane entrance is a fairly chilling experience. Sheffield is a great city as well, with some lovely pubs and pretty friendly locals. What's not to like? I hadn't been since the League Cup game in 1996 (Moody s...

Re: Give Us A (Stratfield) Brake

What confuses me most is that this plot of land was always in the original proposal. So I don't get the point about it being an 'alternative site'. Is that just dressing it up to make it look like something different to what locals have objected to? This part of the site is more logical for a stadiu...

Re: All Four One

Fairly trouble-free progression to the third round, which is nice to see. That's where it gets interesting, and we've got lucky with the draw. The Exeter match seemed a bit scrappier and lower in quality than the league game at their place a month ago, even if the outcome was broadly similar, but ma...

Re: Fractious Park

However it is also very possible to see us in a relegation battle. As I said on a previous thread, I think it's important to consider ourselves in a relegation battle already, at least until we're not any more. We're 23 points off top of the table, and four points off the rock bottom team. I've bee...

Re: What happens now?!?

I haven't seen many games this season, but it strikes me that we've foregone our slightly gung-ho, 'just score more than the opposition' approach of recent seasons in an effort to tighten up defensively. This has worked up to a point - we don't concede many now, but our own scoring has dried up and ...
