Re: OxVox. Remember them?

As with others agree with KE post but would add that we (as a club) need to address the thing that is causing us to bumble around in the bottom division and that is not being able to take advantage of our better crowds because of not owning our own stadium and having to pay a high amount of rent ev...

Re: OxVox. Remember them?

Agreed. I think it's a good thing that the management have said they don't want OxVox to be fundraising for the club - that should leave OxVox free to fundraise and build contacts for the much more important long-term goal of having a supporter-owned club (or, at the very least, having the financia...

Re: The U's v Cheltenham Town

As ever with these type of things, the plea for 'patience' is an attempt to set up a false dichotomy: either you are patient or inpatient; you 'believe' or you don't; your glass is half-full or half-empty. The reality, of course, is much murkier and more complex. On my part I haven't 'run out of pat...

Re: Up for the Cup

No need to be personal, you pillock. I say again ,what are you basing your eeyore perspective on? I was at the game last night and stand 100% by my views. What were you relying on, the Oxford Mail Twitter feed? Why is it better than last season? Well ask some regular supporters what they feel...

Re: Up for the Cup

We didn't deserve to win that match, but probably didn't deserve to lose. For me we weren't any better than when I last saw us play at Morecambe in August, except that our passing was a bit quicker. We won't achieve anything this season, if people think that we played well last night. We played OK a...

Re: Up for the Cup

'Tranny', by the way, is considered a pejorative in 2014. I'm completely signed-up for having a laugh, but let's try elevating it above the schoolboy level.

Re: Up for the Cup

Should we beat Tranmere (I'll be there), then Snake should be banned from the forum until after the Swansea game. That's his first team - conflict of interests! Thanks Tom. That means I can still post on here until the end of the replay  A potential telly game methinks. A half-decent idea ...

A question for the accountants - non-OUFC related

There appear to be one or two accountants on this forum, so I'm hoping someone will be able to help me out. I'm conducting a study into the privatisation of British railways. For part of this I would like to view the public accounts of train operating companies (TOCs) that have been defunct, kaput, ...

Re: WPL

I suspect that the 'takeover' by Eales on co. in reality merely represents the club assuming another layer of creditors.

Jesus - this is like talking to a breeze-block wall. What about the examples I have cited? Have the fans at those clubs not done something about it, and successfully?

Re: The growth of financial leechers in English football

The problem is unsolvable while football clubs require large patches of ground in prime locations in order to provide their main product. If you take the ownership of grounds into the hands of trustees, who do you appoint as trustees of such large assets? Who is responsible for required maintenance...

Re: The growth of financial leechers in English football

You could of course say the same thing about everyone with a mortgage . Buying an asset with a loan secured against that asset is nothing new. Whether it's a good idea or not I'll leave to the economists. Not really - No-one's mortgage has an annual interest rate of 138%. Reason being, the banks (y...

Re: The growth of financial leechers in English football

Did you read the article? Of course not, it's in the Grauniad (although I've relented to go there today because there coverage of the Philae probe is excellent) Why on earth would you leave anything to 'the economists'? I only left them the debating. So long as they're talking to each other, they c...

Re: The growth of financial leechers in English football

Unfortunately this will keep happening until FIFA / UEFA / The FA / The Football League / Whoever changes the rules to force clubs to live within their means or, if they do have a sugar daddy, ensure that the money is 'given' to the club not loaned or borrowed against assets. The problem is that th...
