Carl James Pettefer, born in Taplow, arrived from Southend United in the summer of 2006, and rapidly established himself as a high-quality midfielder, essential to the side. Unfortunately, injury interrupted his season, and he failed to re-establish himself in the side. When Darren Patterson took over as manager from Jim Smith, Pettefer found himself on the transfer list, and he was then released at the end of the 07/08 season.
