Benjamin Charles Abbey, born Westminster, was a diminutive striker who signed for United from Crawley for £35,000 in September 1999. Unfortunately his time at the Manor was less successful, and he never really threatened the established front line. He scored only one goal for the Us, in the final minute of the FA Cup second round tie against Morecambe, in front of the London Road.

After a loan spell at Aldershot, Abbey signed for Southend in October 2000, where he was far more successful, but at the end of that season he slipped into the non-league, signing for Stevenage Borough. After just one substitute appearance in nine months he left for Woking, where he stayed for seven months before a brief, non-playing, spell at Macclesfield. He was signed by Gravesend in July 2003, but in May 2004 he slipped further down the pyramid, and he signed for Hampton & Richmond Borough in November 2005.
