Big Jules joined Oxford in the Summer of 2003, having been Cheltenham's leading scorer the previous two seasons. Julian Mark Alsop was born in Nuneaton. He was signed to provide the club with the big target-man that they lacked in the previous season, and to provide the brawn up front in order for the quicker strikers to capitalise on his flick-ons and general bothersome behaviour.

After injury, though, Alsop slowed down considerably, and when Ian Atkins left and Graham Rix tried to get the side to play more passing football Alsop found himself getting marginalised. He was sacked by United after an incident involving some youth team players and a banana, for which he was banned from football for six months, having played a few games for Northampton and Forest Green Rovers in the meantime. After his ban was completed Jules joined Tamworth, and spent some time on loan back at Forest Green.
