David Charles Oldfield, born Perth, Australia, joined United in the Summer of 2002 as a direct replacement for Paul Moody, although with the added extra of the coaching ability that he brings with him. Oldfield has shown that he can hold up the ball and bring in players, as well as not being too proud to come deep to look for the ball. With United's crop of youngsters coming through Oldfield's experience should prove invaluable to the side. He also took up a playing/coaching role briefly after the departure of Mike Ford, and impressed everyone with his approach, so much so that, in the Summer of 2003, Oldfield was appointed as Ian Atkins' number 2 in a universally popular move. One England Under-21 cap.
