Born Dorchester, Oxfordshire. Young centre back who impressed enough to be signed by Southampton as part of the deal that brought George Lawrence to the Manor. He went on to represent England, captaining the international side during the Italia 90 World Cup campaign, in which England reached the semi finals. Eventually came back to Oxford as manager in 2001, the first season at the Kassam Stadium. Four England under-21 caps, 45 England caps.
