Born Eccles. Shukes was playing junior football in his native Manchester when an Oxford scout spotted him and he was invited to the Manor for a trial. He was signed as an amateur in 1960 and turned professional on election to the Football League. Record league appearance holder for the U's. Died 29 December 2019.
