Rarely can a player have split opinion among the Oxford fans as Matthew Simon Murphy, born Northampton. On his day, he was a strong attacking midfielder with an eye for goal. At other times he was a waste of space, who spent most of the match pointing at space. Frequently both versions were seen in the same game. He did score some crackers, most notably at Cardiff and live on TV at Reading, but even when he scored 20 goals from midfield in one season his detractors still detracted.
